stupid question

So for all the happy campers out there using a Hauppauge PVR-250 and therefore not dealing with the hardware-out issues the PVR-350 owners face with SageTV, what are you using to get video out to your TVs?

Is it that you all have Video cards that have video-outs like the ATI All-In-Wonder series?

??? ???

I currently use the onboard video out of my shuttle (geforce4), I have used the video out of my m10000 and another system with an ati aiw8500 dvi. I am thinking about investing in a scan coverter to go from my vga out to the hdtv inputs on my tv in the future though.

On my Sage server I have a GeForce FX5200-vga out to the HDTV vga-in. 1280 x 720. Excellent picture, resolution and Windows desktop if I ever go to it. Runs 24/7.

I have a Gigabyte Radeon 9600SE low profile in my Minuet case with an svid out converted to composite so that it will play nice with my receiver. I started with a similar PowerColor card but couldn't get the video out looking even remotely acceptable.

Thanks for the responses. another question--at what resolution do you set the screen resolution when you are using a vga-out to a tv?
when I had an ATI All In Wonder 7200, I thought 640 x 480 looked the best on my tv but I wasn't using mpeg-encoded video.

I use a 9600Pro with the DVI-Component dongle to my 64" Toshiba HDTV. The picture quality is just amazing. On our other system I have a ATI 9200 with the DVI-Component dongle out to our NEC LT240K, projecting onto a 16:9 110" screen. Again, the picture quality is amazing.

ErsatzTom: how do you like the Minuet case? is it quiet?

thx

davey

I run 1280x1024i from my Radeon 9500 to my HDTV. Had to use powerstrip to create a custom resolution the TV thinks is 1080i.

I'm using the composite out on an old GeForce 256. Works fairly well, but it's hooked up to an old/cheap 27" Samsung tv.

You can get a $50 nvidia card with Svideo out, and it will look fine on a normal TV (and not mess with the 350 crappy issues). I think 760 by 480 (or thereabouts) is the best resolution.

I've got an MVP player, ShowCenter & PVR-350 (just sold it) which are all hardware based decoders. I also have an FX-5200 and with proper tweeking looks everybit as good as the others.
