Client can't find server
Hi....
I had to reinstall Windows 7, which had been running a SageTV client for many years. Now, SageTV Client says it can't find any servers. Even though on the last installation, I never had to manually open any ports or anything, I have tried opening the ports mentioned in the Sage manual, still to no avail. It can't be anything on the server side, becuase it was working just fine before I reinstalled Windows 7 on the client side. All the extenders work just fine in the house. I am running Win 7-64 and using Microsoft security essentials AV (which I have tried to turn off to no avail). anyone have any ideas? thanks |

Try defining the correct IP address of the "mini" server in the sageTV properties file (while the server/service is off).
e.g.,: my server is at 192.168.1.100, and my router is at 192.168.1.1, so I updated the sagetv.properties file to: miniserver/forced_server_ip=192.168.1.100 miniserver/gateway=192.168.1.1 |

I've seen that before - it is a firewall issue on Win 7 or with Security Essentials.
Nothing to do with your server. Hard coding the server into the properties file will not solve the basic problem - which is the discovery queries are not making it off your Win 7 box. |

In my case, I had multiple network ports on my board, so specifying the proper IP address to bind to to get to the LAN my extenders were attached to did fix my problem.
Even when I had a one LAN port board, specifying the IP address seemed to make the extender connections more consistent. But obviously, YMMV. |

i'd consider as a better solution to put your extenders on a subnet that only includes the server NIC that is bound to the subnet (which contains SageTV)
