Can I import/export across servers?

I am playing around with Gemstone on my test server. When I install Gemstone on my main server can I do an export/import or my views and menu customizations? Or is that a bad idea?

Absolutely... You may need to copy the file depending on where you export it to but that is the design of the import/export.

Sorry to necro this thread but I have a similar question.

I using the manager I copied everything from my new server/client set-up to my HD300. The extender now seems slow compared to my previously set-up using Diamond. I’ve been wondering if I should delete the client file from my sage install folder and start from scratch and just copy the flow info.

Is it OK to copy all my settings from my server/client to my HD300?

Using Gemstone 1.0182 or higher you no longer need to COPY any settings.

When you export/import from an extender/placeshifter you will always be using the Server file system for the properties. From a PC client you should get the option of using local or server unless it is a PC client running ON the Server....and in that case local and server are the same.

And the answer to your question is Yes... you should be able to export ALL or SOME of the settings to any other client/extender.

The only settings that can be incorrect after this process would be ones where the setting points to a file path that would not exist on the other client/extender. So if you add custom backgrounds to your menus that are in a folder on the client that the extender client does not have access to then that setting will be imported but will not work and you would need to go in and manually adjust it.

Otherwise... it should work... and please report any import/export issues that you find otherwise.

Thanks
k

Thanks for the quick reply and great mod.

It does work, was much easier than setting up from scrach. It just seems slow, especially loading some of the flows.

I'm following this thread to see if there are some tweaks I need to do.

I use all default settings and the speed is great on my HD300...could always be better and we are always working on improvements but if your experience is not good then provide details of your plugins other than Gemstone and you can always open an issue and attach a sage and gemstone log file for us to review.
