how to import/export recordings between two MCs?
I have two sagetv media center computers that I would like to import a recording from one to the other, from time to time. (need it to show up in recordings, not media file)
Just copy and refresh does not seem to work. Any suggestions? Thanks, Ray |

You probably have a reason for doing it this way but I have to ask just to be sure. You're saying you have two separate (not connected) HTPCs both with SageTV server on each PC and each with their own tuners?
Most of us have the setup with a single SageTV "server" computer which has the tuners and hard drives for the recording. Then on any other HTPCs in the house you use SageTV Client which looks and acts like the "server" HTPC. That way you record once, but access those same recordings from each HTPC and/or extender without any extra setup or work. Now assuming you are doing it with 2 separate SageTV servers for a reason you can import the media files into SageTV and then using Nielm's Webserver you can change it to be listed as a tv recording. |

I actually have two servers and two TV clients and 2 placeshifters running right now. One server has 5 analog tuner and HD-PVR and is still connected to two dual hdhomerun tuners. This one has old HD recordings on it still.
My 2nd server replaced my TV Client and because when I watched HD programming it slowed down my wife's watching of her recordings. So I thought I use my other MC license to record/play ONLY HD programming. BUT I discovered that one MC can not watch another’s MC recordings. TV Client can watch either, and I may have to go back to that, but I will need to buy another computer. I know, I need to get a SageTV HD Theater (cheaper than a computer). But I still have Sagetv’s HD media extender that does not work 75% of the time. Thanks, Ray |

I tried SageTV video conversion but it took over two hours to convert a 30 minute program. The file is correct to start with. How will webserver do it faster? Thanks, Ray |

The webserver is simply used for adding a copied file to the Recorded TV database. not for doing the actual copying...
I would like to recommend that you look at simply combining your servers together. Run your HD only server as a 'network encoder' (see Appendix G of the SageTV User Guide). Then, you can set up the HD encoders on your HD box, and set them to always use the local storage (using the mmc/encoders/###/forced_video_storage_path_prefix) in the sage.properties file. Set the Sd encoders to store on their box. This will cause normal operation to be the same as you have now.. your HD recordings will be saved on the HD dedicated box... Sd on the Sd box.. however, you will have the ability to watch them across boxes... All recordings will be in the same database, and be accessible from any client.

"The webserver is simply used for adding a copied file to the Recorded TV database. not for doing the actual copying..."
I still would like to do this for the 100 some odd HD archived recordings I had stored on my original sd/hd server before I split them up. My wife's used recording folder and I would always move my HD to archive. She uses mediamvp box that have problems watching HD programs. I did try using same network storage for both servers but that did not work. Going back to two servers and myself using a TV client seems the best way. I save more than my wife who likes to keep a clean recording folder. I downloaded the newest webserver but I still can't see how I can import!! HELP! Thanks, Ray |

Download and installation instructions for the Web server are located here. It is not something that is 'imported' into sage, but is instead something that is added to the properties file to start when the server starts.

I have installed it and is working.
BUT To test I have a recording called test.mpg should I put it into my video folder or my recording folder? I tried video folder then, with webserver, searched for recording in video folder. Found, double click it then showed "import XML show info" I then clicked on that. Brought up options to fill in including: "paste any XML to import here:" what do I paste here? "upload any Sage XML files here:" what do I fill out here? If I leave blank, test.mpg is moved to recording folder but still invisible to recording listing. Ray |

It has to have show information to be able to put into the recording database. this information is not stored in the mpeg file itself, but instead in the wiz.bin of the sage that recorded it. You will have to have the webserver also installed on the source installation, and export the XML data from there, or just write the information yourself.

How nicely things work once I understand.
Still wonder about all the options during import. But it does work. Thanks, Ray |
