Hauppauge 2250 issue

I'm suddenly having a strange issue with my 2250. It's been working very well for about 5 years and suddenly it will freak out on the first tuner for the first 9 min of a recording then record just fine. Sage pops up a message saying something to the effect of "the device was unable to start, check the driver". Pretty strange. The second tuner has no issues. Anyone seen this? I think it may be dying.

Hmm, I never had that exact problem and it sounds like the card could be failing. However, before you replace it, I suggest you try a new coax cable from a place like monoprice.com.

When I first received my 2250 I had tons of recording issues and after a month of diagnosing and testing I determined the issue was my coax cable. The cable company had cut me a bad cable and the $3 replacement cable from monoprice solved all my issues.

I will try a new cable, but it's only one of the tuners and when it works, it has a full signal. The other tuner never has any issues at all.

Did this start happening over the last few days? If so, could it possibly be due to the current Sun outage?

It started at the end of last month. Of the 4 tuners I have this is the only one having the issue. Since it is a dual tuner card, I would think both tuners would have the issue since there is only one coax coming in. It doesn't always happen either. The strangest part is that it happened when it was recording a program directly after one that recorded perfectly on the same channel. It isn't a tuning issue, sage just can't start the tuner to record. It always has 100% signal. Since the card is getting old I may just grab an HDHR and free up a pcie slot.

Mine did that and I never did figure out what was causing it. I ended up rebuilding my SageTV box from scratch and it started working just fine.

I'd look at any updates from Microsoft, and or changes to resources on your machine. Maybe try to remove the tuner driver and then physically remove the card from the machine. Then reinstall them. I know a real P.I.T.A, but it may work.

You didn't update the Sage STV that recently came out did you?

Nope. I updated the driver yesterday and the issue hasn't come back yet. Tested a few recordings and everything worked fine. Pretty strange though.
