Gemtsone Background Package

I have been assembling all the "free" backgrounds I can dig up using Google images into catagories like,

Black and White
Blue and Green
Blue Patterns
Diamond (All images from original theme)
MKANET
Plucky's Theme
Green Nature
Red Patterns
Purple Patterns
Orange Patterns
Cityscapes
Sunsets
etc....

Let's just say that I have a lot of them and 99% are HD...

I am looking for some feedback on the the above list and looking for anything I might be missing that people would like to be included.

All of the backgrounds from the original Diamond install and MKANET's subtheme will be included so no need to ask for them.

Also, awhile back I asked about interest in some "theme" packs of backgrounds for kids etc and had some good feedback. If you have a theme that you would like included like "The Dark Knight", "Tinkerbell", "Phinneas and Ferb" etc please post here and I'll try to put some theme folders together as well as time permits.

The plan is to make the application of backgrounds all through the UI and not require sub themes etc to make changes using the background settings in the Menu Manager.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks,

J

Related to this, I was wondering if it made any sense to set up a place where people can donate background images. I know I have a few nice pics I have taken that I think would work well.

It would be great if someone has a Christmas, New Years, Season Greetings or Thanksgiving Theme to show off to family and friends.

Can you use background images from XBMC or since SageTV is paid for program it's not allowed? I brought some images I liked and would be willing to email to you. Here are a couple of the ones I use at home.

what are the file names for the backgrounds in Gemstone? I have tried copying the ones from Diamond over to the Gemstone directory with no luck. The only one that looks like will work is "Background.jpg"

Does Gemstone support differant backgrounds?

JOrton is correct but you can manually select backgrounds within Menu Manager and select any file for any menu item.

What are the chances of a later mod to Gemstone that would change your theme automatically by month? So October would load the Fall theme, December would load a Christmas theme...etc...?

I also want to take this opportunity to thank you folks for all that you do (all the plugin wizards here on the forum). STV's core functionality has always been the best out there, and your work keeps it interesting, relevant, and just plain fun to use!!

Can all these backgrounds including weather be configured to be saved somewhere besides C: drive? Would be helpful for WHS setups with limited C: space.
Thanks,

Go to the issues site and add an issue for this and we will see what we can do to make the location of these things configurable.

It seems that this only works for sub menus. The main background is still the dindgy gray. Can that be changed? I 've tried renaming files and such with no luck. Can't seem to find where the background is hidding.

Thanks.

Replace the background.jpg file in the Gematone theme folder until we can make it optional.

"Dindgy" - Don't hold back on how you really feel

I tried doing that, and the all of the main menu items are still that Beautiful Silver background, instead of my new dingy background...

Edit: I guess exrenders handle this differantly, the main Sage GUI on th eserver changes backgrounds fine. Just not the extender ...

Sorry, I didn't mean to insult anyone by any means.

I noticed this on my client today...I changed the background.jpg file in the Gemstone Theme sub-folder, but Gemstone/Sage continued to display the old BG. Even when I deleted the background.jpg file, I'd get the old BG.

I figured out, by looking at the logs, that Gemstone/Sage continued to source the translated BG image from:
\\SageTV\SageTV\userdata\Phoenix\cache\imagetrans\GemstoneMenuBG
instead.

Once I deleted the cached BG images, everything seemed to work as intended again...
(confirmed via the sageclient log)

I believe there is a clear background cache option in the background manager that would do this so you don't have to go deleting files, it should clear them for you.
