Free Codec Package

Anyone have an experience or thoughts on this ... ??

CPU Mag recommends it as the best Codec Package they can find.

Thanks!, T.

I never touch or install a Codec package like that. More trouble than they are worth. Especially if they install everything without giving you a choice. Usually makes it very difficult to trouble shoot any issue because you need to know which codec has the priority or which one is stepping on the other. Buy yourself a good DVD codec (nVidia) and only install what you need. If you want Divx install it. If you want Xvid install it. Better to keep your machine lean and mean and just install what you need to run what you have.

Thanks Gerry ... Appreciate the quick feedback ... I will take your advice and stay away from the pack ...

klite is ok, but be careful what you install. I suggest that you only install what you need.

KLite works great for me. Installed all of the stuff from the "mega" pack. No perceived problems.

I downloaded the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. It's pretty much the same as what was pointed at in the first post, but includes BS Player, Real Alternative, and Quicktime Alternative.

The K-Lite Codec pack has improved greatly as of late.
Last night it actually FIXED an issue I was having and not break something.
That's a first for K-Lite in my experience.

I'll echo what has been mentioned before.
Only install what you need.

LOL, what a coincidence . I had the same experience an hour ago. For some reason, mp4 was crashing in the middle of playback. I fought with it for a bit and gave up, removed all codecs, torched my registry and installed Klite's mega codec pack removing alot of the things I didn't need. My system is working again (and I can watch Rockstar INXS which prompted all this).

I had a problem with an XVID AVI about a month ago. Installed the Mega Pack, and it started working. Happy, happy, joy, joy!
