Remote Control Suggestions

For years I haven't been able to find an ideal remote control. The desired features of an HTPC remote seem like a no brainer to me - and here's my list of what I'd want but none of the manufacturers seem to make:

1. Lighted buttons
2. Learning function for power, volume and mute
3. Simple mouse control

The Logitech remotes want to be 'event' driven which is mostly useless for me and they broke easily and were pretty expensive.

Adesso makes a pretty cool one that has a nice mouse function, but no learning/reprogrammable or lighted buttons. (Otherwise pretty awesome)

Rosewill makes one that says it's a learning remote but user reviews indicated it's will only learn stuff for an STB which isn't useful for me (or anybody else?)

Right now I'm using a pretty crappy universal remote with learning functions, but it gets a little weird especially with longer keypresses and Sage starts scrolling down really fast sporadically - not to mention the multiple functions degrade WAF when the wrong device mode is inadvertently selected.

Anybody have any suggestions?

If these were still in production you could get one easily. You can still find them though. I've got one and love it.

Do you want them for a client PC? If so, the only thing I ever could stand to use was one of the Microsoft MCE remotes that has the extra button at the top to turn the TV on and off. They can learn the volume control from your TV, and all the buttons work great with Sage. Only thing it doesn't do is the mouse stuff.
The Logitech remotes never could be programmed to just be simple. Drove me nuts being lost all the time with them.

I have also used the Lenovo mini keyboard. I have the original, and the latest lighted version which has a better layout. It won't control your TV but it controls everything on the PC...

Can you use the LCD media controls with Sage on that?
Looks pretty cool.

I've used a Home Theater Master MX-500 for years. Every button is completely programmable, and I had purchased a 3rd party computer interface for it for easier programming. It has what I think is the best layout for sage, and a layout I have rarely seen in other remotes. MOST of what is done in sage involves the D-Pad, Select, and basic transport controls (prefferebly 2 speeds). This one groups all those functions into the center 'thumb' area of the remote. You can still find them on ebay for $40 or so (I think it was $250 when I bought it almost 10 years ago)... Oh yeah, and I use a WeeMote dV in the kids room...

I'm with Fuzzy. I have had my MX-500 for 10 years+ now. Absolutely love it. Between it's unlimited flexibility and Event Ghost, I can do anything.

It would take an awful lot to pry it from my hands

I have two of them, and as far as something you can pull out of the box and program, it's tough to beat. If you have the tools to update a JP1-programmable remote, there are a few Insignia-replacement models that work well for Sage. I have three of these, but only one is backlit, as it was a complete crap-shoot in ordering.
