Need help with remote control

This will sound odd...but it is the best way to explain it..

I have an MVP and a HTPC side by side. The HTPC has a PVR 150 and I control Sagetv via the IR connected to the PVR 150.

Thus, when I use my 45 button remote, one click controls both the HTPC/Sage and controls the MVP. (and that's what I need to change..I need to be able to control them individually)

I purchased a URC9910 remote and thus can program it pretty much how I want, given it has JP1...

I need for the MVP and the HPTC to recognize different commands to do the same thing.

In other words...when I put the remote on "TV",and I press "stop" then the sage on the HTPC would stop, not both.

and when I put the remote on "vcr" and press stop, then the sage on the MVP would stop, not both.

I don't want one set of commands to control both, I need them separate somehow. So, is there a different IR command set that I can use that one or the other will recognize?

edit: P.S. I just checked my motherboard and there is a group of pins labeled " IrDA Infrared Module Pin Header : JIR1"...can I use this somehow? Of course when I built the system, I did not buy a case with Infrared on the front..)

Thanks,

Gary Ellis

If you feel like reprogramming a new RC5 IR code set into your remote, you'll need to program one that uses a system code that isn't 30 or 31. Then, you could teach the MVP to use those commands & unlink the old commands, or you could customize irremote.ini on the PC so that SageTV only responds to the new code set instead of the old one. Otherwise, you would need a completely new IR revceiver and IR code set for the PC.

Thanks as always for your help..it is most appreciated,

The easiest way is to get a different IR receiver for the PC and teach it a different set of codes. Other than that, it is up to you whether you want to go through the JP1 process and irremote.ini editing or MVP code teaching. Teching & clearing codes for the MVP is probably easier than editing irremote.ini.

In my sig lines, info about irremote.ini is in link 1 and JP1 info is in link 2.

thanks,

I think I may be misunderstanding..where is the MVP teaching and clearing codes instructions?

I assume JP1 teaching and editing irremote.ini are 1 option and in your sig line.

On the UI for the MVP: Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Link-, Show-, Unlink-Command.

found it....thanks..you're right this is the easiest to understand, but time consuming (I have time though)

Bascially, I change the set of commands on my remote to something else than the 45 button remote (I'm using a 9910, btw)....then when I go to "link" I just press the button I want to link to say "guide" and it will link it....Thus, I will have a different code sent that the MVP will understand as guide. And this will not affect the sage on the HTPC at all...

one last question, do I need to unlink the old coomand first before linking the new, or does it do that automatically?

Thanks a bunch...you solved a large problem..

Gary

It won't unlink them automatically, which is why I said:

It doesn't matter what order you do them in, but you should cover or disable the PC's receiver while unlinking.

Hmmm... actually order does matter. I would unlink the old ones after linking the new ones or you'll end up with no way to navigate while teaching the new codes... and end up having to fix some things via properties file edits.

OK..that doesn't seem to work the way I thought it would...I thought I could take any remote and link the key to the MVP..

When I tried that it did not recgonize the key stroke, so it would not link...I could link a different key on the 45 button remote and it recognized that, but not one from a different remote...

So, it was letting me "remap" keys on the 45 button remote, but not link keys from a totaly different remote...

comments?

I mentioned using an RC5 IR code set above... that's the only IR protocol that most Hauppauge IR receivers can decode, so you can't use just any remote with the MVP.

Got it..now all the pieces came together..

I need to program an RC5 code set different than 30 or 31 into my remote and then use those to link to a key..

Got it...now I have to figure out where to find RC5 code sets...

Thanks,

Gary
