NAS, Sage and files
I was curious as to I/O and what really would be best route to go for extra storage. If one gets an internal RAID then not much to worry about connectivity wise, but if one chooses an external RAID via eSATA, USB or firewire, pretty much the same as the real bottleneck is still the network has to stream the files to the end client. So I was wondering how much different a NAS or iSCSI device would behave in a Sage environment. If say all your archived recordings are on the NAS and so are your DVDs -- now the client to get to to those files I would think it would go up through the server and then through the server to the NAS, back from the NAS to the server and out to the client. That the client would not talk directly to the NAS and that this would actually put more load on the server especially the network then say a directly connected or internal RAID. Thoughts anyone?

No, the clients access the files directly from the NAS. At least in my case, that's how it works.
