The solution to this is to make sure that the SageTV SERVICE is stopped before doing the Java Update (as indicated above). (It pays to read all of the thread before posting.)

I went back from the ver. 7.x to the latest 6.31. Seems to work fine for me.

one thing i noticed about this recent update is that if you have a custom jvm heap size set in registry then you might also have these errors that everyone is complaining about. I had to slowly work my jvm heap size down from 2048 to 1024 the new java and any previous version I tried after that gave me eroor after error until I turned down the heap size

Isn't 1280 the max java heap you can have?

Is it just me? I am unable to open the Java Control Panel applet. I've spent a couple hours trying to troubleshoot it, and it seems that it may be related to video driver and color depth. If that is the case, I suspect most HTPCs would have this difficulty?

I just loaded a Java update (it is certainly current) and it made my Sage TV non functional (missing a dll starting with men.. or something. I only use the computer for Sage TV so it may not be important for me to have the latest Java. I will have to do some things to back track and am unhappy with JAVA. I will not upgrade again.

Java Updates

Just thought I'd share here what I have learnt.

Keep in mind that SageTV is a 32bit app. I found out the hard way that if you install the 64bit version of Java, Sage will not work.

If you install both the 32bit and 64bit versions on your x64 system, Sage will play nicely.

Not sure how much longer Oracle will be releasing x86 based version of Java since we are well into the x64 and who knows maybe x128 based systems soon.

I just moved my Sage to a dedicated box I bought for a couple hundred bucks. I don't plan on keeping everything updated to the latest if it's all working just fine as it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

A.

Just my two cents:
- SageTV 7.1 is running fine with 32-bit JRE on 64-bit OS
- if SageTV is running in service mode you have to stop the service before upgrading Java
- SageTV 7.1 is running fine with JRE 7u45 (on Windows 8.1)
- for security reasons I disabled webbrowser integration of JRE (can be done in Java control pannel)

Same here no problem with JRE 7u45
