Serial Tuning DirecTv

Is the Registry hack still required to use serial tuning of DirecTv receivers (H23) with the Paterson device? I'm on the last version of Sage and planning to use win 7 64-bit. There is a lot of confusing information on the forum about this now. I read that it is not required anymore one place, and another place that it didn't work for some people without it.

If the H23 has an ethernet port (IIRC it does) I would use HTTP tuning. It is very easy to set up and is very very reliable.

I already have two Paterson devices and a duel PCIe com card installed in my new server. I would have to run net cables to my server area also to use the Ethernet tuning. I might some day but for now I just want to be able to use my existing hardware.

Serial tuning works in windows 7 64bit without any hacks. That is my current configurations. I use two Paterson devices and a tune a 3rd receiver with the USB/serial device.

Thanks!

Did you have to copy the DirecTVSerialControl.DLL to the Sage common directory to get it to work? Some say they have had to do that.

No, everything needed is installed. Download dtvcontrol and test the communications before configuring sagetv. Also sage need to be disabled before using dtvcontrol.

Just re-setup my Sage Install. I use 3 Patterson's (going to try HTTP after I click Submit). Download Paterson's Utility and install it. It will detect the absence of the USB/Serial adapters (Prolific/Syaba in my case) and download and install them. Reboot and you should see Windows go through the driver install. Go into Sage and set DirecTV Tuning Method to fast. Should work.
