STV stops running when I play recordings
Hi, I wanted to upgrade to the latest Diamond release and the system was telling me STV was incompatible. I was running 7.1.6 quite succesfully using TMT5 as my DVD and movie player and STV with AC3 audio and default video rendering to play Sage recordings.
I removed all of my plugins, upgraded to STV 7.1.9 installed my plugins and all looks great except.... I play a blu ray or DVD and it goes to TMT5 just fine. I play any recorded content MPEG's, FLV's etc. STV just goes away and has to be restarted. I have tried different codecs to no avail, Having spent nearly 2 days on this I gave up and posted here. Any ideas. Oh yes, I also tried reinstalling STV 7.1.9.256. I am running WIndows 7.

Not Diamond
I did not post this here and I do not see it as a Diamond issue, admin must have moved it here. Having said that you guys know this stuff inside and out and I would accept any help or thoughts that you can provide.
Thanks Tony

Have you tried the default STV and no plugins enabled to see if the files will play back without crashing out of Sage?
I have experienced this before and it usually has to do with the decoder needing to be "reset" for lack of a better word... Are you using EVR or VRM9? Also do you happen to have the Corecodec 2.5/3.0 installed? You might want to change to VRM9 and switch to the MS DTV-DVD Decoder for MPEG2 and H264, then back out of Sagetv without playing a file and then come back in and try to play a video... I don't know why but this has worked for me in the past where I was caught in crash loop. It's not enough to just change the decoder, you have to back out "saving" the settings and come back in after restarting cleanly, then play a file. Anyways, worth a try... good luck. Pretty sure that I can confirm this isn't a "Diamond" issue as we don't touch anything to do with playback. J |

Tried that
J, thanks. I have tried many combinations of codecs but not closed it down and restarted. So I tried your idea. Thanks for the thought but ....still crashing and producing a Java error file everytime it does it.
I am geeting to the point where I think the only way to fix this is format c: and start over unless someone has any other thoughts??

Did you try disabling all the plugins (Diamond, etc...) and see if the default STV still has the issues? May be something going on there, worth a try.
I am using the latest Java 6 U29 32bit on all my machines with no problems, maybe try installing or updating Java 32bit? Jeremy |

Fixed
Thanks for trying. I ended up doing a Windows restore. It came up with one of those worrying screens that said Windows had found problems that it was trying to fix. Whatever it did it worked!
