MS DTV-DVD Video Decoder with DXVA verses Cuda based decoding

I'm currently using CoreAVC 3.0.1 with cuda enabled to play bluray based MKV's. I dont have stability or performance issues playing files. Just for experimentation, I tried the MS DTV-DVD Video Decoder to playback the same files. I dont see any stability or performance issues with the native MS decoder either.

So... I'm curious what's even the point of using the CoreAVC decoder with Cuda? On the CoreAVC forum, they recommend me to use CoreAVC with cuda enabled instead of the native decoder; but, never got a definitive reason why.

What's the practical difference between the two decoders? It seems that both Cuda and DXVA utilize the GPU. I didnt notice anything dramatically different in CPU usage between the two. They both are completely stable. The only thing I noticed differently is if I use LAV Video's implementation of CUDA decoding, it causes visual side-effects such as double-split screen, green pixelization artifacts, and sometimes whitescreens sageTV's app.

LAV never did that for me. It is one of the best decoders IMHO. Nvidia drivers love to make coreavc and the ms decoders stop working. Keep in mind that coreavc was created before h.254 decoders were widely available.

Well.. after going in circles for days trying to figure out why I'm having so many problems with decoders ONLY under sageTV... I finally realized the problem is having my javaheapsize set to 1280. Apparently, this is too high for a client that happens to also be on the same machine as sageTVservice.exe

So.. I can't blame any instability issues on LAV Video. It works very well... just as good as the LAV splitter.

I will use LAV Video for all my video decoding needs inside and outside sageTV.

However, I still prefer to use my Arcsoft Audio HD decoder since LAV Audio decoder ends up having to use part of Arcsoft Audio anyway (for all DTS related decoding).

Go LAV Video!

I'm using the latest version that comes with Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre 5. In order to use it, I had to register it manually and one more small step.

PS: I know there's a lot of talk using a specific version from TMT3 in order to prevent resampling 96Khz to 48Khz by the windows mixer. However, since I can't hear any difference, I prefer to use the latest one.

I've found that anything above 1024 on my client box is unstable.
