Cool First "HD Audio Decoder" for full PC-based HD audio decoding for blu-ray playback!

Thanks to "donkey" on this forum, hot off the press.. a brand new MpegDeMux.ax for those who need full HD audio decoding (real DTS-MA/TrueHD) done on your PC for sageTV bluray (see attachment). As many people know, sageTV bluray/m2ts/ts decoding requires sageTV demux; even if you have EnableSageTVStreamDemux=0. It's now possible to do if you have Arcsoft Audio Decoder HD installed on your PC. I've only tested this with the popular TMT 3 185 build that can decode true 24bit, 8 channel audio (can also downmix to 5.1). This was the only version that I know of that decodes real DTS-MA 24bit audio in any app that allows to use directshow decoders; otherwise, you only get 16bit audio; even in TMT5 (you can verify this using reclock audio renderer); although reclock isn't necessary ultimately for decoding. If you're looking for that particular build of TMT and details of installing it, I'm sure you can find it on a couple of popular HTPC forums pretty easily. I know if I can figure it out, others can too.

There's also an extra surprise... it also supports the latest LAV audio decoder as well; all you have to do is specify "LAV audio" for your HD audio decoder in sageTV instead of Arcsoft Audio Decoder HD. However, you'll only get TrueHD audio support; unless arcsoft's audio decoder is present on the same PC. However, my personal preference is to just use arcsoft audio decoder HD for both TrueHD/DTS-MA (also capable of DTS, AC3, etc). I dont really like to mix and match.

You'll also have to disable ac3-filter in order to prevent it from resampling the audio to achieve multichannel bitperfect audio decoding.

Hopefully people who want to upgrade their sageTV demux know where and how to upgrade it.

There is no further support for this at the moment until this sageTV demux is included in a future sageTV beta release.

Thanks again donkey!

Interesting. I found that 7.1.7 had this already (I think), because after reading your initial thread I found that option in my hd audio decoder section. I don't need it so I didn't try, but if I ever do thanks for being persistent.

You said you use analog audio right?

Yes, this is for analog multichannel out. Actually the sageTV demux in 7.1.7 was only partially finished... there was time to only add dts-MA, not trueHD (for arcsoft). Also, LAV audio HD audio decoder support wasnt available either; which was a nice surprise. I think before 7.1.7, the only decoder that seemed to work was FFdshow for TrueHD and DTS core decoding.
