I'm a Windows man and never had much love for anything Apple but I give credit where it's due. He was a true visionary and he radically changed the face of computing over the last decade (not to mention his first decade in the biz). He also made some great commercials to my great, Windows loving, consternation My sincere condolances to his family and friends.

Nada. My home is iFree. I'm not really AGAINST the devices, most of them are either excellent or very, very good. I'm simply unwilling to pay a 40% (or more) premium for them.

I also don't like how Apple dictates what software and hardware can be used with the devices and how they force developers to pay them. I understand this is necessary for the Apple model of "it just works" to be successful (not to mention their financial model) but IMHO if I want to write software and give it away I should be able to.

I'm all for free enterprise so Apple has the right to charge whatever they want, I just choose not to play in their sandbox. I deeply respect the company and Steve for what they've done. Bravo.

never had an Apple computer, however... four ipods and two ipads. regardless of price, prejudice, personal feelings etc, I couldn't find any other companies who competed with those two products - not even close. While Zune might have been superior in some ways...no support
While ipad has its' annoyances, when it comes to travel, I've never felt so good to be on a plane

I don't want to come across as an Android fanatic, but I'm typing this on an Android tablet while waiting at the gate for my flight to board. Half the weight of an iPad, and no iTunes needed to load content onto it. And I don't need to own a Mac to write apps for it.

The ipods are great, if you want to use itunes. Without that, they're just another mp3 player.

My phone is also android. great phone when it's connected via 4G - mostly useless otherwise, as far as the 'smartphone' features go.

iTunes seems to bug alot of people, but I find it far less intimidating than I do editing my Sagetv properties file... lol

and as far as them being "just another mp3 player..." - I'm still waiting for a multi-pin cable to hook my Android phone up to my Pioneer car stereo, or my Kenwood, or my Ford...etc etc. Seriously, there just isn't the support for Android in areas where there is support for iPods/Phones.
I wish the Google goofs would get on the ball with regards to hardware/software integration, i.e. if HTC releases a phone (T-Mobile MyTouch 4G for example), and tells their sales force that "all these great accessories are coming....soon", well, they better release the accessories.

My car has Bluetooth stereo built in. No cable needed. I don't even have to take the phone out of my pocket.

My tablet's a Samsung Galaxy Tab (and my phone is a Galaxy S).

My issue with iTunes is that it comes with a huge amount of baggage in the form of services, drivers, and whatnot that are constantly wanting to be updated, even though I never use them. Plus it's a whole nother interface to learn. And it doesn't run on extenders. And I can buy DRM-free music from Amazon, and drag-and-drop them to my Android devices in Explorer. So basically unless you own an iPod, there's no upside to using iTunes; it's just a maintenance headache that gets in the way rather than making things easier.

same here, except the iPod connection provides alot more as far as interface goes - visual Pandora on the cars' LCD screen, for example. I'd LOVE Android developers to get on board, they just haven't so far. Maybe soon

If that's a proprietary Apple interface, I wouldn't hold my breath. They have plenty of incentive to license it to makers of gadgets you can plug iPods into. They have zero incentive to license it to makers of plug-compatible iPod replacements.

there's a multiple-pin connection on the side of my MyTouch Android phone. Nobody seems to care enough to make something that hooks up to it.
