Black bars on top and bottom of screen when pausing

I recently changed a setting and I can't remember which it was but since then I get a black bar at the top and bottom of the screen. The bottom bar has the timeline overlayed on the black bar and when this happens, I can only see the middle of the screen which is about one third of the screen. Before this happened the timeline would just overlay the picture witout the black bars. I also have a black "inkblot" for lack of a better term under the "skipping commercials notice on the top right of the screen. I would appreciate very much if you could tell me which setting this is.

Sounds line you switched to overlay in a full client PC.
