HD-100 and HD-200 Stutter with latest HD-PVR drivers
I just installed the latest and greatest driver update for the HD-PVR (1.6.29207) to hopefully resolve my 5.1 audio sync issues with my Dish Network VIP-211s. I get a small stutter on both the HD-100 and HD-200 every 4 seconds or so. The videos play (and sound) fine in VLC. I have not reverted back to the 1.5.7 drivers in hopes someone here may have an idea.
Thank you, Brent Benkstein |

I cannot use 5.1 audio at all with those drivers, not to mention they totally screwed up the colors of the recordings. I emailed hauppauge, and they suggested reverting back to drivers from 2008! Here is the link, if you want to try those. I didnt, I just revered back to 1.5.7 and switched to analog audio, and my stuttering/freezing stopped.

Yeah, I had to go into TME, Device Settings click Default to get the colors back to normal. I would rather not revert back because the video and audio plays fine in VLC. Some updated information. I'm running the latest Sage Server 7.1.9 and both the HD-100 and HD-200 are using the latest firmware. My HDHR recordings play fine in both Sage and VLC, it just seems to be the HD-PVR recordings viewed on an extender that has the stutter.

Does it stutter when you use the Client software or watch it live on the server? If so, does it stutter when you play it back later? Ive had to hit pause for about 10 seconds then play if watching live on my 100 to stop it from stuttering. Sometimes it just doesnt seem like my server can receive and dish out at the same time with the HDPVR. Its a 3Ghz with 4gb ram, win7 64bit, and no swap file, 1/2 the mem free, so the issue has to be the hard drive being slow I guess.
Are you connecting wired or wireless? Any dirt on the network plug on the recording machine? Ive had that problem too.

I haven't tried watching inside Sage on the server but it looks fine in TME on the server (live and played back). Yes, it does stutter for both live and fully recorded shows. I can watch the same video stutter free using XBMC on another PC so I don't think it's network (wired Gigabit) or hard drive related. Maybe I'm describing it wrong. It's not really a stutter but rather a slight hiccup in the video, the audio seems to play fine. It happens every 3 - 4 seconds. I used MediaInfo to check out the recordings from the old driver and the new one:
Old HD-PVR driver (no stutter on HD-100 or HD-200) 11.7 Mbps, 1280*720 (16:9), at 59.940 fps, AVC (Main@L4.0)(CABAC / 4 Reg Frames) 384 Kbps, 48.0 KHz, 16 bits, 2 channels, AC-3 New HD-PVR driver 11.7 Mbps, 1280*720 (16:9), at 59.940 fps, AVC (Main@L4.0)(CABAC / 4 Reg Frames) 384 Kbps, 48.0 KHz, 16 bits, 6 channels, AC-3 The HD-100 is connected to the receiver using HDMI (video only) and Optical (only way I could get the 5.1 to actually pass to the receiver) The HD-200 is connected to the TV using HDMI, optical to the receiver It appears to me the only thing different is the number of channels in the audio but I'm not an expert in this. |

More information. I just played the stuttering video on the SageTV Server itself and it did not stutter. When playing the video on the HD-200 the server is sitting at around 20% CPU (Sage service at 1%) and the 1 Gbps network is at around 2.5% utilization.
I have reverted back to the 1.5.7 HD-PVR drivers and no more stutter. Everything to me seems to be pointing at the extenders and not the Sage application itself. Is there any settings I can play around with on the extenders that might resolve this? Thanks for any advice! |

I was experiencing a problem with stuttering on two HD100s after moving Sage to a new system with latest HDPVR drivers loaded. After trying different ethernet controllers (10/100 and gigabit), then experimenting with recording qualities, I stumbled on this thread. Downgrading to 1.5.7 drivers fixed the issue! The retired Sage system was also running 1.5.7 and never showed stuttering issues.
HDPVR is connected to a DirecTV receiver via component video and optical audio. Media extenders are connected to TVs with HDMI. |

Hi All
I have just installed an HD-PVR and am experiencing the stuttering described in this post. Can someone please update me on any more recent fixes? If the answer is still to use the 1.5.7 drivers, can anyone send me a link to where I can download them? Thanks Steve |

I can't re-create this issue with my current configuration. The video and audio is sync'd well, and plays very smooth, no stutters.
HD-PVR (USB version) *.ts files at 1920x1080 29.97 fps(interlaced) Time Warner STB, connected to HD-PVR via component HD video files recorded indicate 6 channel audio in MediaInfo Using latest HD-PVR Beta drivers, version 1.6.29353 SageTV server running on Intel 2500k @ 4.3 ghz, 1% to 2% cpu usage during playback on HD200 extender. Does this issue only appear with DishTV? |

I had the same problem. I added a new HD PVR to the system, installed the drivers that came with it (1.6.29207) without updating the drivers on my existing HD PVR, and found that my existing HD PVR's brightness and contrast were way out of whack. I then updated my existing pvr's drivers to 1.6.29207, which didn't fix the colors. I eventually found that the brightness and contrast were defined in sage.properties, and I set them to the TME defaults, which fixed that problem. But then I had the stuttering problem playing through an HD-100 (but not on the server). The stuttering only happened on the old HD PVR, not on the new one. I rolled back the drivers on the old one to 1.5.6.1, and that did not fix the problem. I then tried to install 1.5.6.1 on the new pvr, but it didn't take, so I installed the beta 1.6.29353 drivers instead. That didn't solve the problem. I tried to install 1.6.29353 on the old pvr, and it wouldn't take. So I downloaded 1.5.7.0 and installed it on the old pvr. That fixed it!
I was tempted to see what would happen if I tried to install 1.5.7.0 on the new pvr, but not enough to actually do it. Both pvr's are recording from a Dish Vip211k. |

I downloaded and installed the latest beta driver for my 2 revision E2 HDPVR's connected to SA4640HD STB's and had stuttering only on my HD200's and not on the server client. It would skip a few frames every 4 seconds or so on the HD200....
...So then I rebooted the server after the new driver installs... and now it plays smoothly on everything including the HD200's. So after the driver installation a server reboot has cured my stuttering. Easy enough to try. ...at least it works for me. This is on a WinXP server. |
