it would be nice to think this is an anti-trust issue, but we could never win that case.
however - logically, it stinks. Google buys Sage and Youtube, and then both youtube and google videos stop working thru Sage.
hmmm
nice treatment of past, paying customers

Same here. YouTube and Google video are fine on my extenders. It seems to be the PC Client having issues. No matter if I use the SagePlayer or DirectX.

It looks like the HD300 is affected as well. It no longer plays back 1080p videos; only low res. I used to be able to playback all 1080p yahoo/apple movie trailers. Unless somehow everything I've tried doesnt have a 1080p equivalent somehow.

I'm curious if this can be patched via a plugin.

Why would Google want to fix this when a lot of their revenue comes from advertising. I am sure they prefer you use the browser.

Google probably wont make any changes to sageTV software. However, we might be able to fix this via a plugin. I just tried movie trailers again on my HD300 this morning, still only low res videos. I dont think they are even 720p. It looks like the 720p and 1080p settings no longer apply.

I did a little messing around... no luck

The only way I could get the FLV file saved by Sagetv Client to play in WMP (or anything) is after installing the following,

WebM DShow Installer for windows...

Still not playing in Sagetv Client even with the webM directshow installed.

The FLV file saved by the client is WebM VP8 encoded video with Vorbis Audio according to mediainfo.

Setting the the VP8 decoder to WebM VP8 Decoder Filter (after installing the above package) in the sagetv client config file didn't make any difference.

Any ideas...

That is in fact the first test to see what SageTV future is going to be like. Such an issue would be fixed in a few days before the buy-out. Let's see how it goes ....

I am using only a Sage 7 server on one TV, and still cannot watch "any" youtube video. I put the word "any" in quotes because I can't verify that ALL videos are doing this... I did, however, test about 10 videos last night and get the error "exception occurred in video playback" (or something similar).

I have NO clients, NO extenders... one HTPC running Sage 7 server.

I'm not having any problems with Youtube, natively or through PlayOn on either the server, clients or extenders. My settings are:

Win7 x64

Video Renderer: EVR
MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD9)
H.264 Video Decoder Filter: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD9)
VC-1 Video Decoder Filter: ffdshow Video Decoder
Media Player for non-MPEG Files: DirectShow
DScaler Deinterlacing Filter: Disabled
Audio Renderer: Speakers (Creative SB X-Fi)
MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter: ffdshow Audio Decoder
HD Audio Decoder Filter: ffdshow Audio Decoder

I also have:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Frey Technologies\Common\DirectShow

EnableSageTVStreamDemux

set to 0 from the default setting of 1.

HD Youtube videos appear to be broken. Only low resolution videos work on hardware extenders. There's a HUGE difference in picture quality when streaming 720p youtube clips as well as 1080p.

As for sageTV windows clients, with the right dshow video decoder, you can get low res video clips too.

It appears ffshow video filter can handle the video stream. The hard part is getting HD youtube clips working again. Playon picture quality is even worse than what we have currently for native. I'm hoping that it's as simple as adding a plugin that can gain access to the HD (1080p and 720p) clips again.

Question

Am I the only person who has noticed Youtube HD (1080p/720p) videos are not playing back on the HD200/HD300? Every video I've played looks low resolution. However, multiple people keep saying that youtube works on extenders. Am I missing something?

Interesting that the first thing to break in SageTV post Google is YouTube - a Google service.

For confirmation, I tried to play back a video that I knew was a 1080P Youtube video and all that was played (and subsequently saved via my HD300) was a 640*360 (16:9) FLV file that is definitely not the 1080P or even 720P version I was expecting.

Also double checked that my Online video setting was set to 1080P HD and it is, so something is not right there in playing the HD version over the SD (640x360???) version.

Jeremy

PS - Also got the "we're looking into it" response from support re the YouTube issue.

Thanks Jeremy. I'm guessing most people didnt catch this because not everyone has the bandwidth to comfortably stream at these resolutions.

This isn't the first time youtube changed their website; which requires an STV update. Since SageTV support wont be here to save us each time this happen further into the future, I'm hoping someone here will be able to maintain a YouTube maintenance plugin patch.

Update: I believe I have a solution and will be creating a downloadable STV update that should be available later today or tomorrow.
