CC Weirdness

Ok, it took me awhile to figure this out. While I was out my Wife enable closed captioning for a DVD (off the HD) through the SageTV menu. Which is great.

Watching live TV via a HDHomerun tuner, no CC, wasn't expecting it. Now the weird part, switch to the the PVR-150 tuner (connected to DTV) and I have CC going. I have never used CC so this came as a surprise, also I didn't know how to turn it on or off. To get it to turn off I had to go back to the Imported Videos , play DVD and turn of CC. Odd right?

Anyway, my question, if it was left on in the DVD menu, would it being recorded through my pvr-150? Can it be shut off after it is recoreded and you are playing it back?

If you don't have a CC customization installed, then SageTV's CC usage for recordings is covered in Appendix K of the PDF manual. Usually it takes setting a property or 2, but once it is enabled, you should be able to enable/disable its display from the playback pop-up options menu.

That appendix lists the 250 & 350, but I believe the 150 & 500 drivers can do it now too.

Yes, I saw that it in the appendix. What I didn't see was how to disable CC if I didn't enable it. The CC option was not showing in the pop up window when watching a recorded video, hence I could not shut CC off. While I thought it was cool that I could watch video with CC, it was a bit of head scratcher as how it got turned on in the first place. It took me a a moment to discover that it was turned on while watching a DVD. I am not sure if the CC option is always availiable in the DVD pop up menu, but I certainly did not knowingly do anything to enable it. Just thought it odd CC could be turned on in one menu but not turned off in another.

And yes the 150 does do CC.

cc_option_enabled=true is the setting in sage.properties and sageclient.properties that you need to set to true so that you get the CC option in the options pop-up. Shut down sage completely, including the service, if used and set the option to true. Then restart Sage and you will have the option in the pop-up to turn off the CC.

Yup, The 150 and 500 now do CC if you are using a newer driver, version 24201+.

Whats funny is that most likely you have CC recorded in your HDHR recordings as well as the PVR-150 recordings. Its just that Sage can't display them like the 150's CC.
