But there is a work around. Install the v7 server software & enter your v6 key. Then go to the following post listed below. It is from Jeff & he lists a couple of .exe files that you will use to replace a couple of files in server. This will allow the v7 server software to accept your v6 keys. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56225 I haven't tried them as I bought v7 before the shut down, but others have & say they do work. Thanks Phil, One last question, is it worth it to go from v6 to v7? Is it a bunch better?? 6 has been really solid and good for me.
I thought I'd get your opinion before I go reloading everything. |

v7 was well worth the upgrade price simply for the plugin system alone. The fact that it is free now makes it stupid to NOT be running 7.1.9

If I were you I would make a backup of my SageTV directory in case you need to go back & I would then give v7 a try. Install v7.1.9 over your v6 install. That will kill two birds with one stone. You get to keep all of your recordings intact & your v6 licence key will already be entered. Then replace the .exe & you should have a valid install of v7 for free. Good luck & I hope it works out for you. Phil

Thanks! As I try to sort out a solution to the pending potential death of Replay I am investigating 7MC with a Ceton card or a pair of Hauppague HVR 2250's (my girls prefer analog TV for some strange reason).
Well, 1st pass with one HVR 2250 is perplexing me, Sage6 can see the card and both analog and QAM tuners, 7MC can only see QAM tuners but won't play anything, shows "missing files to play video", odd. WinTV7 sees everything as well and plays video just fine. So I may end up going from Sage6 to v7 as my main solution for the forseeable future.. |

I think that is where most of us are right now. I have run my SageTV network for three years. The extenders have serve us welll and the new plugins had gave us new functionality and features. My server has ran solid with no need to reboot, the HD-PVRs are solid and do not over heat and the extenders have serve us well and survived my kids when they punish the living S*&^T out of them! I am surprised Sage was not bigger since almost every post has to do with system expension and not systems startups! There has to be a solution to the extenders but it is not probably as close as we will want to see it! |

Another quick question,
Can 7MC and Sage co-exist on the same PC (assuming I would only run one or the other, but have both on-board). Right now I have two HVR 2250's installed, Sage6 sees them as 4 analog tuners. I didn't set them up, shut down Sage, then tried 7MC. It sees them as 4 QAM tuners and won't find analog, which is what I'm looking for.... arrg! Even though it's shut down, I'm wondering if Sage can "steal" the tuners so that MC can't find them? |

Did you stop the SageTV service or just the interface?

I may not have stopped the service, I right clicked on the task bar icon and selected "exit"?
I have other issues, my Intel mobo has only 2 PCIe X1 slots and 1 x16 slot. I was trying to setup a raid using an Adaptec Card (x8) in the x16 slot. While the raid card worked, the 32bit OS could only see 2TB of the raid in 1 vol. Also, with the card in the system, the WinTV tuners (on the two x1 slots) would then tune nothing, just hash, on all channels in Sage. So, I'm dumping the raid card, called Intel and found out how to use the mobo's integrated raid capability (why it's not documented in the manual is a good question), which forces a OS re-load, Win7 64bit this time to see the big raid drive as 1 volume. I'll try getting this vanilla Win7 MC up and running with the HVR 2250's first, then add Sage7. If it were simple I guess it wouldn't be a hobby... Edit - Loaded Win7 64bit, 7MC now working great with all 4 HVR2250 analog tuners, integrated RAID controller working great, 5TB now on-line. Next up is to put Sage back on. Edit - Loaded Sage6, then Sage7 on top. Both the Server and Client are up and running. I found that 7MC and Sage can run at the same time and access different resources on these tuner cards (e.g. tuner in MC and S-Vid in sage), so I'm a happy camper now. Edit - I have found that while 7MC and Sage happily co-exist, 7MC is unaware of Sage so you need to manage the number of simultaneous channels used. I set up Sage to use the S-Vid input on the 2nd channel of the 2nd Hauppague TV card. This way there would only be a conflict if 7MC tried to record the 4th simultaneous analog TV channel (Analog Tuner #4). At that point 7MC would clash with Sage's use of that channel, not record the 4th show, and display an error saying so. I must say that I'm really loving Windows7 Media Center, and now using 4GB diskless X-Boxes that are set to boot right into Media Center Extenters allows viewing recorded or live HD TV anywhere around the house. This setup is awesome, stable, and fluid. I had no idea that Microsoft bundled such a solid product into Win7. Adding the DTB/ShowAnalyzer Plug-in allows 7MC to skip commercials better than any product I've ever seen, awesome. Last edited by Rem; 09-17-2011 at 05:34 PM. |
