Current state of 350 support

All,
I'm talking with a couple friends who want to replace their Tivo boxes with SageTV and have a couple questions I did not have answers for.

Mainly 350 output, is this supported "officially" yet or is this a user generated add-on? I don't use a 350 so I've ignored all the chatter about this topic. I have noticed the chatter is reduced so it must work? Does Sage still hang at the end of the file or is this STV dependant?

thanks,

This was always officially support and not something of an add-on. However, the drivers for it have always been bad and caused issues for certain people. Lately, people have noticed how Hauppauge themselves have kind of abandoned it. I would not expect it to be around for too much longer.

Like mlbdude said, the 350 support, including UI over its TV out, is built into SageTV; it is not a user add-on. But, there have always been problems with that card on some (many?) systems, but not all. If the chatter as died down on it, it could be because fewer people are using it due to its problems. There is a quite current discussion of it in the hardware forum.

Do your friends have HDTVs?

Yes - then they don't want the 350 anyway, a good video card running 1080i (or native if their digital) will be better

No - next question

Do they want to view anything but Sage recordings?

Yes - then they don't want the 350, it can only do MPEGs.

No - then they should look at the Xcard and/or the MVP.
