HDMI doesn't sync ONKYO HT-RC360
I have a problem with my sagetv:
If I first turn on the unit, it doesn't display anything on the onkyo. It seems to work O.K. if I connect HDMi directly to the tv (a vizio), or if I use component video. However, whenever I use the onkyo as the source, I can only get video working by the following horrid hack: 1. Plug component video output to TV component input 2. Plug hdmi into onkyo, source 2. Then I 'turn on the sagetv, go on to the tv, choose 'component' then choose 'hdmi' and I get a picture. I tried the following: 1. forcing resolution to 1080p 2. force 'hdmi' output mode in advanced settings 3. change startup resolution to 1080p, 720p. 1080i, etc. These worked intermittently, depending on the winds. The annoying thing is that every time I change inputs I have to go through the whole experience of doing the switching thing again. This also has to be redone when I switch to 'sagetv' server. I tried flashing back to 'old' firmware, but I still see the same problems as the 'beta' firmware. I called onkyo and they said it sounds like a HDCP handshaking issue, and that I was screwed. Here are the things that I tried: Try this. Go to Detailed Setup > Multimedia > and enable Force HDMI Display Mode. 1. Turn the device off by unplugging the unit. 2. Press and hold the Back button on the remote while plugging in the power cable. Continue until the Service Menu appears. 3. Chose the Config Reset option, then power on and off the device again. 4. Also if after a few minutes you don't see the UI, try hitting the video out button a few times to change the resolution. I also tried different cables, different inputs, and powering on and off, factory resets, you name it. I also removed the component video cable, and can get things to work if I do the 'vizio switch between video inputs' every time the device switches video resolutions. I also tried beta firmware, etc. etc. I really want things to work, but I probably am going to have to return the unit. HTPC needs another decade to bake. I have a similar configuration, but with the 260 instead of the 360 and it works without all those gymnastics so I know it can work. Which extender are you using (300 or 200)?

The HD300 doesn't use hdcp so it can't be a hdcp handshaking issue.

I have the TX-SR604 and I found that from the HD100 to the HD300, I have always had to use an hdmi switch or else I would lose video after turning the onkyo off and back on again.
