Updating TVs

Step 1: We just upgraded our TV to a flat panel. I have been reluctant to do it because I just don't watch TV that much anymore.

Step 2: In doing so, I noticed that they supplied us with a universal remote that I would imagine will work with the USB UIRT device that our SageTV is set up with.

Step 3. We have now set out to remap all our remote channels and now see that the option to erase all the old stuff for the old remote doesn't really exist.

Step 4. We notice now that there is a new version of SageTV v7. I guess we need to pay for that upgrade? We are currently running Windows7 with SageTV v6.6.2.218 and SageMC v.6.3.9a. I guess we need to upgrade that too?

Step 5. I remember how much of a pain this has been in the past and don't want to run into trouble with missing pre-recorded shows when we are done.

Advice on how to make this as painless as possible is greatly appreciated. I will wait for your generous thoughts and prayers before I proceed.

v7 is half the effort of v6. The only difference you would notice would be that the sage splitter has been updated so the codec game begins anew.

The new plugin system is awesome.

Sounds neat

I'm still researching and it looks like Microsoft Media Center is far superior today. It even has a free internet TV option. Really nicely put together. I'm just testing it on a single tuner for now before diving in head first.

My SageTV favorites list has over 100 entries set to record. I want to put those into WMC to test them. Is there an easy way to print those things?
