64-bit Win 7 SP1 Messes Up Sage Client In Some Cases

FWIW, as soon as I upgraded to Win 7 74-bit SP1 on Friday my Sage Client on that machine now gives the spinning wheel of death and reports a decoder error (same MSFT DTV MPEG 2 decoder I have always used) with some OTA ATSC recordings that play fine on my HD-200 and my Sage Server on XP.

Update - this extends to my Win 7 64-bit laptop as well. Windows Media Player crashes out as well

Also, I can only get consistent playback of all OTA recordings with Corel WinDVD 2011. VLC can handle quite a few of them.

My ATI drivers are the latest.

I'd stay away from SP 1

From what I've read of SP1 it isn't working well for most. Thanks for the heads up though.

Unhappy Ouch...

SP1

Upgraded without issue here (I do not have any TV tuner cards installed).

I have heard about the Windows Media Center crash from others that have upgraded. I think it in some cases it was traced back corrupt DRM or file permissions others have even said that it was a driver issue for a TV card on the system.

I would probably start by uninstalling and reinstalling WMC, checking DirectX and then finally by doing a complete removal and reinstallation of the TV card(s) in safe mode followed by the video card.

Quote:
A significant issue in Dr Watson that occurs in some upgrade scenarios. In these scenarios, the Windows Media Center directory is missing or has incorrect permissions. This results in a crash when you try to open Windows Media Center.

- A significant issue in Dr Watson that occurs during a typical database maintenance process. If you use Windows Media Center and add a new file type to the database, Mcupdate.exe may crash.”
I also found these two potential fixes (review and use at your own risk):

Someone else noted that removing the installed TV tuner cards in safe mode makes the problem go away.

Appreciate the replies. The YouTube crowd is screaming as well. If I had had any clue I would have left well enough alone.

I'll look into those fixes on the hauppauge site.

Thanks for the replies; I appreciate them.
