Any recent Mythtv converts?

Hi all,

I am a current mythtv user with:
an AMD 3800 X2, with about 3.5TB worth of mythtv recordings (all in SD)
This has 3 PVR250 connected to 3 Motorola DCT-2500 for recording. I also
have a HDHR, PVR1600 & PVR1800 available, plus a couple of other misc recording cards (digital & analog).

I also have 2 Hauppauge MVP frontends running mvpmc at my TVs.

I got a nice 46" Sony Bravia (XBR6), and I really want to step up to an HD frontend/extender, and be able to capture HD content (I'm hoping that the HD Prime will be available before I die). The Hauppauge mvpmc only supports SD, and right now only supports mythtv 0.22 officially, so I'm falling behind the times in more than one way.

I was just wondering how difficult it will be to migrate my 3.5TB of content into SageTV? Anyone else done this recently and can give me any tips, or gotcha's to look out for?

Thanks.

I have not migrated from MythTV to SageTV. Depending on how you are with pulling the info out of Myth, you can import it into SageTV via the web interface using an XML file.

I converted for roughly the same reason ~3 years ago. The HD extender just looked better than the aging HTPC I had.

As to how to import your data into sagetv -- I didn't bother. I just used mythrename (now called mythlink) to move the horrid default mythtv filenames to something reasonable, and just deleted things as I watched them vi the imported videos section of sagetv.

I'm not sure if it is possible, but if you can get something like mythlink or mythrename to give your old recordings filenames that are parseable by BMT, you might have a very easy time of it. I import things with show-S/E-episode_name (example is Lost-S01E22-Born_To_Run.mpg) and the BMT extension automatically finds metadata for them. The key is to have the season/episode encoding somewhere in the filename.

Myth convert

Hi,
I converted a couple of years ago, but thought this might be of worth to you.
I have a WinTV 500 card and a DVICO HDTV7 card in my server, two standard and two Hidef Digital recorders. All of the video stuff I had in Myth was standard not Hidef, pretty much all the stuff I record now is Hidef. After watching the Hidef stuff for a while I deleted all the non-high def stuff, just didn't look good anymore.

I had kept a few DVD's that I had copied that we watch every now and then, but i found that it was just as easy to pop the DVD in when we want to watch it. So those have now been deleted also. A disk crash helped, just never put them back.

So in short, think about what you want to really keep, after you upgrade to Hidef you might not even want anything other than family or keepsake stuff.

Just keep in mind, your cable provider completely controls the copy protection settings, and therefore whether an HDHR Prime would work or not in Sage. And even if you are able to get the HD content that you desire today, the cable provider can change the copy protection settings at any time in the future, with or without warning, turning the Prime into a nice doorstop (OK, turning the Prime into a nice listing on eBay). For anyone that is able to use the HDHR Prime, that's terrific (and I'm jealous). But just go into it knowing what the outcome could be.
