Metadata for all Movies is being cleared on restart

All the metadata is being cleared for movies whenever I restart Sage. I have "Automatic" lookup turned off and I'm not writing .properties files if it makes a difference. I am also using the latest Sage 7.1 beta.

In the web interface I manually "Update Metadata" for a title, everything looks good, and I "Save" it. I can see the correct metadata in the Sage UI but when I restart Sage (server) all the metadata is then empty for the title (no description, year, 0 running time, etc.). It also seems to have cleared the metadata for all other titles too, even ones I haven't "updated" via the web interface?

It looks like Sage scans for .Properties files for movies and if they don't exist clears out all metadata from the database? This is strange behavior...

I would probably file a bug with core sagetv, see if you have other metadata plugins installed other than BMT. BMT has no facilities to erase metadata (although it has been requested). If you have items that used to have metadata, and then it goes away, then something other than BMT is affecting those files. BMT will never overwrite metadata with empty metadata, nor does erase metadata.

Thanks - it does seem to be caused by not writing .Properties files so I will just let it write them. Is there any way to prevent the .Properties from having multiple entries for actors (each repeating the previous entry and just adding one more) or is this a core problem too?

The multiple entries in the properties is basically a history of the changes. Sage reads and writes the .properties, so i can't control that. You can export .properties from bmt as well, as a batch process, and when you do, they will get cleaned up and sorted, but i can't control how sagetv writes theirs

This was a .Properties file that was created (didn't exist before) when I clicked "Save" in the BMT web interface so there isn't a history of changes. But it sounds like the Sage core has control over how it is written so I will take it up with them. Thanks.

Just to update this - it looks like this was happening since I originally imported the titles with matching .Properties files. So, Sage core apparently expected them to be there and when they were missing it cleared out the metadata.

I removed these titles from the database and imported them again without .Properties files and all is good now.
