Sage Video Import - Error Init Audio

I've pretty much given up on getting Sage7 to play anything besides what it itself has recorded.

It can play it's own files, as well as older vanilla AVI or MPG files, but try to get it to play a MKV or whatnot and the thing is a disaster.

I have a nVidia 430 using HDMI, but formerly had an ATI card. Neither make a difference with this issue, since both worked fine in other media players, just not Sage for stuff like this.

I've set every possible audio selection I can in the Audio/Video setup in Sage, but all I seem to get on most MKV files is this message:

There was a playback error in playback : sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-5,0x80040200): There was a problem rendering the audio portion of the content playback.

I can play these same files in every other media player, on the same box. Zoom Player, Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, XBMC, etc.

I've tried selecting filters I know will play this content. I've chosen DEFAULT, since obviously Windows Media Player uses the default codecs. I've specifically selected ffdshow audio decoder, etc.

I have set Media Player For non-MPG Files to Direct Show, but this too changed nothing. Sage still gives this error.

Why is Sage such a hassle to get playback, when seemingly every other player just works without me having to adjust a single setting? Install player, double-click media file - playback.

An example file shows this for its info in Sage:

Matroska [H.264 16:9 720@24fps, DCA@48kHz 5.1 eng]

If I view the properties on this same file in Windows Media Player it shows:

Audio Codec: ffdshow Audio Decoder
Video Codec: ffdshow DXVA Video Decoder

I get flawless playback and my receiver shows DTS as the audio format.

Anyone want to tell me what nut or bolt in Sage I have to adjust 5 degrees to the left to get playback without wearing a wizards hat on a Wednesday night while holding a cat by the tail and facing east?

Try disabling the sage splitter and see if that helps.

Thank You!

Man, talk about something that needs a GUI entry on the Audio / Video menu, this is it!

Why isn't there a listing that simply says Use Sage Demux - Enable/Disable!

I tried all my files and no matter the format, the all seem to be playing perfectly!

Thanks again for the quick and simple answer:

32-Bit Windows:
HKLM\Software\Frey Technologies\Common\DirectShow\EnableSageTVStreamDemux=0

64-Bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Frey Technologies\Common\DirectShow\EnableSageTVStreamDemux=0

Sorry to necro this thread but...

I am having this exact same issue, no HD audio from mkvs. Except I am running Windows 10 64bit. I am unable to find where to make the registry change. I can find the directshow folder but no splitter registry to change. Any idea where it is in Win 10?

More background: HD audio used to work in Sage, one file gave me an error and hasn't worked since. Files works with VLC and MPC-HC. Tried the default codecs, ffdshow, and LAV. Any other suggestions?

Create it if it does not exist....likely the default is enabled so a =1 entry is not required.

Search the registry for EnableSageTVStreamDemux if you haven't done so already, to see if it ended up somewhere else.

Thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately it didn't help.
  • Did I add it correctly?
See attachment.
  • Do I need to do anything else to get it "activated" in the registry?
  • Any other ideas?
