MyMovies wont connect to client pc

After reading several threads, Multizone Waltkhrough and Troubleshooting with no luck, i will look for your help...

I installed the software and works great on the server (clean install as client/server)

But when i installed on the client (as client only) it will not connect to the server!!

I put both usernames exactly the same, with same password, i enable the options on the firewall, then i simply turn both firewalls off, and still there is no connection

Both are Windows XP Pro machines with clean installs

please help i dont know what else to do!!

Did you install My Movies Collection Management software on the client PC? (It needs to be on the server and on each Client PC.)

It sounds like your asking about getting MM collection manager to connect to the server, and not asking about sagemymovies? You should probably post in the mymovies forum, but ill try to help. first share the folder on your server where your movies are stored. Second try to connect to your server from the client pc. Click run type \\yourservername\yourmovieshare and press enter. Does it bring up the share? does it ask for a user name and password? If it does you don't have them the same. If you connect ok then you have sharing set up ok. Also in the collection manager window when it askes for the server DO NOT add \\ to the server name. \\server = wrong. Just type server. Hope this helps.

I believe that folder its a hidden one, do you know where is it? so i can check its shared, i believe that this part is done automatically when you install the server version of the MM...

Check the smm wiki it states where the shares are based on O/S I think the mymovies wiki does as well. Can you connect
To that share from the client as well?

Did you ever get this to work on your client? I've opened up the firewall on both my server and client machine, turned off the firewall, still can't connect.

Thought I'd followup here before posting at mymovies.

thanks
dave

Did you check your permissions on the server share created by mymovies?

I could not find where that is. I did not see it in the Wiki. I'll go looking again.

EDIT:

OK I tried sharing the MSSQL.1 folder, and I can access it on the client but not its child directory. So I shared the Data directory that contains the My Movies.mdf file. But neither of these work.

I can open the shared folders from the client machine without any authentication issues.

going to computer -> manage -> shared folders -> shares I do see that the MyMoviesFileStorage$ share name is shared.

is there a way I can browse to this from my client to ensure there is not a permission issue? I tried \\server\MyMoviesFileStorage with and without the $ and that did not work.

thanks,
dave

OK I got it working thanks to this thread!

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49929

I googled for mymoviesfilestorage based on your previous message and found that thread.

I just had to turn off use simple file sharing.

now off to try and install SMM
