Can I use Windows Media Center to view Netflix on my SageTV server?

I use my SageTV server as a server for 2 HD300s. It also serves as a direct connection for watching SageTV on a third TV set.

Windows Media Center has a super Netflix browser. However, I uninstalled Media Center so as to avoid any conflicts with the SageTV server.

Using a plain old web browser to browse Netflix is just plain painful. I can't seem to find any lean-back interface for Netflix for a PC.

So, I wondered, is there a way to run Windoze Media Center just for the Netflix app while my SageTV server and client run on the same machine?

I don't want PlayOn.

Did you try the PlayOn addon?

Works like a charm!

No offense to EP, but I wouldn't say a charm, unless I have things set up wrong. It works but it is kind of klugey and slow. And you have to pay for Playon.

Someone here found a command line parameter for launching WMC directly into the NetFlix portion. Haven't tried it myself, but it's something I intend to do at some point. Control would be the fist thing to overcome, having to switch your remote to controlling MCE instead of Sage. This would require using a USB-UIRT, for instance, with something like EventGhost or Girder.

Actually, you don't.

I developed a simple script to launch SageTV from within 7MC. This script also calls Babgvant's SageTVLauncher at the same time when SageTV launchers. SageTVLauncher ensures that ehshell.exe is suppressed when using the mce remote in SageTV.
Once I exit SageTV, SageTVLauncher is killed by this script and I am back in 7MC.

If you have an MCE remote, that is correct.

Worked like a charm! Made a little .bat and 7mc launches right to Netflix.

I have a wannabe MCE remote (the Hama remote), so it works just fine for Netflix without any changes.

Here's the contents of the .bat file, should be all one line.

I am pretty sure that you can use an MCE remote with sage, you just have to train it. Or better yet, use a Harmony remote - although you still might have to use MCE buttons to be able to control Sage and MCE.

Too bad Netflix Canada won't work in MCE.

I thought so but then I tried using my MCE remote last night to control my HD-200 extender. I guess an MCE remote works, without training, to control Sage running on a PC but not on an extender. But that is likely fine in 99% of the instances as you will be wanting to use the PC anyhow.

Because it makes no sense in this instance, I was just out in left field!

Do you mind sharing your script? If I can get netflix that way I can switch everything else back to SageTV again.
