Codecs causing crashes?

Hello Everyone,

I've been trying to get my system stable for a while and think I have nailed down my issues with display drivers and other annoyances, but I am still having some issues. Could codecs be to blame?

There are times when I'm watching a TS recording from my HD-PVR and Sage will suddenly "disconnect" - service no longer running and I have to manually initiate it and restart the gui. Sage will also suddenly crash on me and will pop a window saying that the program will have to close. Other times, I will get a BSOD and the whole system will reboot. Unfortunately, I cannot replicate the error (and have tried endless combinations). I know system stability is a complicated issue because of all the different factors, but could it be the codecs?

I am running Windows 7 using VMR9 + Microsoft DTV-DVD codec for H264 content with FFDShow (rev3516_20100725) for sound on an ATI HD5670 over HDMI. I am using the ATI Avivo codec for MPEG playback - I do get occational crashes while playing these for HD shows, but my main problem seems to be with TS files.

For me this combination is rock solid
Microsoft DTV-DVD for H264 and Mpeg
EVR (not VMR9)

ATI Mpeg has been troublesome for me.

Thanks for the reply. Do you use these settings for both Video and DVD? From what I remember, setting EVR for DVD did not let me see the menu marker.
