Blu-ray player recommendation
I'm replacing my HTPC with an HD300, and want to add a Blu-ray player into the setup for the occasional rental and friend brings over a BR and I don't want to take hte time to rip it to my server before watching it.
I was looking at an LG BD550, but have seen some mixed reviews. I'd like to stay under $175 for a nice unit. What would you guys recommend? |

I have the Sony BDP-S470 ($150 at Amazon). It is quite nice and I chose it because it has a lot of internet services built in (Netflix, Pandora, Slacker, Amazon, Hulu Plus coming), is 3D capable, and has native resolution video output if desired. The Netflix interface could be nicer but it is all around a good player. You could bump up to the 570 if you need wireless built in.

Oh, I like the Pandora option....That's one thing I'll miss when my HTPC comes out.
Thanks for the info.... |

I originally had an Insignia Blu-ray I bought for around $100 from Best Buy. I then bought a Samsung BD-P4600 because not only did it have Netflix but also Pandora. However, a few months ago or so, Insignia put out a firmware update that now allows their players to do both Netflix and Pandora. DOH!
I've found the Insignia to be a very good Blu-ray player and for around $100 I don't think you can go wrong. Heck, when my Samsung won't play a DVD or Blu-ray, I'll stick it in my Insignia and it'll usually play it |

Interesting. I might look into the Insignia. They are actually under $100 now.

Just to let you know, the panasonic bluray players last forever and should have all the online features you are looking for. Very reliable and the best warranty by far. I sold them for years and had issues with all other brands but panny. Never tried oppo, but they are supposed to be the best.

Hi,
Just got the Sony S-370 for $95 and an S-570 (wireless built in and 3D ready) for $145. Both work great, are fast, and have Netflix, Oandora, Amazon, Slacker, and a bunch of other stuff. If i didn't go with the Sony, I would have goe with the comperable Samsung. Very hapy with them. -Mike |

You do know you can play BluRay's off a BD-ROM as well, they don't have to be ripped...
