SageTV 7 Client, same UI as before?

Hi,

I've been using Sage TV 6 for a while now, the server, a couple of clients and a placeshifter.

Installed the Sage TV 7 trial today. I was surprised to see that the client (which I almost exclusively use) looks identical to version 6. I'm guessing the placeshifter also looks like version 6.

Is this really the case? The client/placeshifters don't get the updated UI?

Then I'll just stick with version 6.

They get the new UI, you might need to check which .stv file it's running. Go to (If I remember right) Detailed setup from the v6 ui, and look for the listing for which ui it's using, and change from the current (likely the v6 ui) into the one for version 7. I'm away from my system now so I can't tell you the exact items to look for, but will post them when I get back home.

OK, thanks for that info.

I'm wondering if upgrading to version 7 is worth the money in my case.

For someone who mostly uses the client and the placeshifter, do you think the upgrade is worth it?

What new features are there in v7 of the client/placeshifter?

Thanks for all the information

by default the extenders don't default to the new ui. You need to load it manually from Detailed Setup. The V7 ui is in ..\sagetv\STVs\STV7 (iirc)

I think you could also shut down sage, and edit each of the extenders properties file (delete the STV= line)

yes it is worth the money.

Besides the new UI that you need to turn on, the quality of the picture is better, plugins can be installed directly from Sage without having to download and save manually, and many other features that are pretty cool.

I definately think the upgrade is worth the money! In fact, due to my years of experience with the SageTV guys and their product I actually bought the upgrade the very day it first became available as a beta download. The Sage team truly listens to it's user base - more than any other software I've ever used so it was a 'no-brainer' for me to upgrade.

HTH,
