Windows 7, Sage 7 and HD-PVR installation tips

What's the best order of software-install after the OS goes on?
Sage first, or HD-PVR first? With W7, do we still need Total Media Extreme to make the HD-PVR work? Also, with this setup, I've seen some posts regarding Windows Media Center, and whether or not to un-install it.

Does Media Center need to go for sure (I'm using an on-board ATI Radeon 4200 IG video out with a gigabyte board/AMD 785 chipset)

thanks - great help so far

Turn off UAC before doing any video driver installation.

WMC does not effect Sage (My experience).

You don't need TME because Microsoft DTV DVD Video Decoder works great.

Depending on the remote that you are using then you many need to disable MCE.

It's a general rule to install drivers before applications (make sure that there are no question marks in device manager). There is no need to turn off UAC for driver installation, since any decent driver will ask for admin access before installation. Sage 7 is also supposed to work now with UAC, though I never tried that (Not sure where the Sage config/property files end up that way)

It makes sense to uninstall Media Center, unless you plan to use it in parallel. But note that you cannot share tuners between both, hence if you had tuners installed in MC, then you need to uninstall them there. Remote control access can also cause conflicts between both, so again it's best to uninstall MC.

could i dedicate one tuner to Sage and one tuner to Media Center, as I have both a HD-PVR and an older PVR-150

Yes, that should be possible. The question though is why do you want to do that? Wouldn't it be better to use both in either application (e.g. to have one guide that covers both)

I'd like to explore Media Center a little, and I could do that with the old PVR-150, kind of an emergency back-up system.

You'll need TME if you want to play VC-1 encoded BDs with DXVA, in Sage 7. If not, you'll decode with the CPU using the WMVideo DMO decoder...not a big deal if you have a decent CPU, but be aware of it.

SIC0048 has a good guide for installing the HD-PVR. I would continue to follow the recommendations in his thread with Win7 and Sage 7. see link below

The HD-PVR should be installed before SageTV.

I'm fairly sure the full installation of the HD-PVR is needed (the IR Blaster is needed, even if your not going to use it)

Thanks - I intend to use it, as it has worked for me before with XP.

I am running 6 hdhomerun tuners and 2 hdpvr's, which are usable in both sage, sage client, WMC, and wmc clients with no conflicts. Dvblogic controlling the hdpvr's. I always have only installed just the hdpvr's drivers, using mce blaster presently.
