XP,Vista to Windows 7 and SageTV save data base reinstall tips.

Check around if your going to Windows 7 64bit OS see other have working drivers.

Don't forget to backup your data files frist
I highly recommend in doing a clean install not an upgrade over top of vista.
If you have an upgrade DVD boot off the DVD disc and do a Custom install and per-format the harddisk.

1: Install windows 7 updates, only critical updates.

2: Setup AutoLogin on your Server see how to in the below link

3: Install any missing video, chipset, tuner card drivers if windows 7 dosen't see it by defaults with the Windows Update just go to your the manufacturer.
You SageTV Client user will you want download the latest drivers from the manufacturer if all possable.

NOTE: Watch out for Windows Update NIC, USB drivers they may not work rigth if there an update on Windows Update to upgrade your drivers if do install them just do a roll back.

4: Install latest ver of Java 32 bit even if you install the 64 bit ver of Windows 7.
4a: Install Microsoft Security Essentials
4b: Any other tools like system monitor

5: Start | Control Panel | Control Panel | Appearance and Personalization then click on Folder Option then got to tab View.
Check "Show hidden files, folders and drivers"
Uncheck "Hide extensions for know file types"

6: All backup data base need to go

7: Remote Blaster IR codes files go here

8: If have a DVD Library you need enable file sharing
Rigth click on that fold you want to share go to properties option then the tab Sharing.
Click the on "Advanced Sharing" Button.
Check the box "Share this folder".
Click on "Permissions" Button
From the Share Permissions enable use the Everone and Allow Full Control or as is that up to you.

Note this only apply to XP user who are upgrading to Windows 7
Bear in mind that this for a stock SageTV non mod ver.
9: Time for some editing
Open Sage.properties with Notepad
Find any and all Program Files and replace it with Program Files (x86)
Like
STV=C\:\\Program Files\\SageTV\\SageTV\\STVs\\SageTV3\\SageTV3.xml
to
STV=C\:\\Program Files (x86)\\SageTV\\SageTV\\STVs\\SageTV3\\SageTV3.xml

Now your ready to start SageTV
