reinstall SageTV on new hardware and Vista OS

I have been using SageTV since 2004 and am very happy with it. I recently built a new Intel dual core computer with Vista Home Premium OS. The question I have pertains to the licenses I have and how to appl;y them on the new hardware and software. I have a license key from the old SageTV software I don't remember the version number as well as a second license for the major upgrade in 2006 . I also have a license key for a media extender.

So can anyone tell me what happens when I install SageTV on the new system. Will it ask me for all three licenses ? Just trying to avoid problems before hand. Any help is greatly appreciate.

When you start SageTV, you'll need to enter the old license first, then the upgrade key after that.

The Extender license is added while SageTV is not running at all, as described in Appendix M of the SageTV PDF manual.

Well Unfortunately it no cooperating. I tried to input the keys when SageTV loaded at the screen that says enter key and it would not accept it. Came back with a error saying key seems to be invalid. I triple checked my typing and no mistakes. I ever tried the second software upgrade key and same result.

Any suggestions. regards

If you are trying this by copying & pasting the info from the license emails and running SageTV in admin mode on Vista w/o using service mode, then I suggest contacting SageTV tech support for license issues.

Or, maybe someone else using Vista might have run into something similar...

Are you using the same name as well? I think that matters too. My entry went as expected on Vista.

Another Issue Hauppauge Remote

I am trying to get SageTv to use the Happauge 45 button remote. When I installed the software I had the boxed checked to use it. During the config wizard I told it to use the 45 button remote and the ir blaster. (I did also set up the balster using the hauppague software). The blaster part is working in SageTV but the remote is not. Nothing happens when I press buttons on the remote.

I would assume that since the SageTV software set this up during configuration it sould just work. This may be a bad assumption. I tried doing the learn function but again noting happens and perhaps the Hauppauge receiver cannot do this. The keyboard seems to funtion correctly.

Any help once again would be appreciate. I did do some research reading various poste here without much luck. Thanks.

It depends on whether you installed SageTV or the Hauppauge IR software last; I would check this FAQ.

Andy once again thank you. That did the job. I replaced the ini in the Windows directory with the one form your post and its working. Not sure why the original one did not work as it had a section for SageTV. Thanks again.

Prior to reinstalling the OS, do I need to unregister the Sage license keys first? I just have Sage Server and a HD extender. Thanks!

If you are overwriting the old Windows OS, I don't think it will matter. If you are moving to a new PC & the old PC is still in use, then the software should be uninstalled on the old PC so you can't use the license in 2 places.
