Gateway Computer Scent

Here's a funny random thing I've noticed. I used to work as an on-call computer tech for a local company. I always noticed that Gateway computers had a scent to them but at the time I never really put two and two together.

I'm now going back to college and the computer labs in their college of business are all Gateway brand computers. The rooms are heavy with that specific scent. So it got me wondering whether Gateway actually uses some sort of perfume or something to make their computers smell a certain way.

I know scent is something that is used heavily in marketing (think Abercrombie & Fitch). I never thought that a computer company would attempt to use such a tactic to make their computers more appealing. But I can't escape the fact that I believe every Gateway computer I've ever encountered has smelled exactly the same regardless of the environment.

Kind of funny.

Gateway used to be a US company based in Iowa but they sold out to Acer in 2007 - has this scent been there since their early days? Given the Iowa roots and the former Holstein cow logo I would have expected the smell to be "scent of cow".
