Okay to Move Movies to 'Video' Folder?
We have a lot of ripped movies in the Video Folder on our server. And we now have a lot of movies in Recorded TV. I'd like them all together under Videos. Is there any problem or negatives to moving them using a File Manager (Windows Explorer)?
I guess we lose the display of those we have 'Watched'. Ideally we would only move those we have watched, but I doubt there is any way to select those from a file manger. I haven't noticed a way to do this from SageTV. We will soon have a new Win7 Client and will be setting up My Movies for SageTV on it. Do all the movies need to be in the Videos Folder for it anyway? We will also be setting up Comskip. Any problems with it and moving to the Videos Folder? It would be interesting to know how some of you deal with all this. Thanks, Rod

Moving them from a recording folder to an import folder will not change where they are in sagetv. Sage treats recording folders, and import folders, effectively the same (except it won't record to an import folder). Sage will just pick them up in that new location, and re-attach it to the recorded show info. If you want to actually move it out of recordings, Then you'll have to rename the file (v6 or earlier) which will make sage no longer recognize it. v7, however, now stores metadata in the file, so renaming it won't make a difference. In v7, you'll either have to use a tool that allows moving it directly within the sage database (I think BMT's we interface can do this), or disable the "reimport files with metadata to recordnigs" feature in v7, then move/rename the files.
(That feature is disabled in Videos -> Options -> Advanced Options -> "TV Recordings in Import Directories are: Recordings/Imports")

I'm still curious what most people do that have a lot of recorded TV movies and ripped movies. Do the just live with it being split up in two sections of Sage? Cause that seems a cumbersome way to scan your movies when you are choosing one to view. Still also wondering about Plucky HDs My Movies and if it will deal with movies in both areas? Perhaps I need to check out his thread. Thanks, Rod

You wouldn't need to leave it off... once something is imported again, it is done. It won't be pulled back into recordings just by turning that switch back on. Though, really, unless you are moving files around between sage installations, or trying to reintegrate recordings into an empty wiz.bin, leaving it off shouldn't be much of an issue.
