MPegDeMux.ax crashes directshow
When I let MPegDeMux.ax load (merit high), directshow crashes -- graphedit or any tool that uses it.
When I set it low so that stvmpgdmx.ax loads, there are no problems with directshow. Also, Sage does not seem to be using the Nvidia Video Decoder as directed by sage's setup and as set by my directshow merits. It's using the ffdshow video decoder which has a lower merit value and is not set to be used in sage's setup? This worked in past versions. This has been true for the last few betas -- I'm not sure when I 1st noticed it and it took me a while to chase it to the offending filter. I just verified it with 7.23.

Adjusting merit value is OK for troubleshooting a problem, but creates more problems in the long run. Best to have the fewest possible number of codec installed and to not edit any merit values.
As far as FFDshow; Check for "default" video decoder being set in setup, or FFDshow being added into the sage.property file. Add nvidia to the property file. Determine your system's "default" video decoder by using "Render Media File" in Graphedit and see what filter is used. If it is FFDshow then that is why it is being used. Sage may not be able to build a graph with nvidia, even if selected and so uses the "default". Try to build a graph in Graphedit using nvidia.

Yes, I'm used to using graphedit to verify filter merits. Every single program that uses codecs assumes that it knows best and changes 'em all around (including Sage). I keep track using RadLight filter manager because it'll generate a text file that I can do a diff against my working merits so I can get things back where I want 'em.
I already verified that my setup in sage is for nvidia. And I just checked that SageClient.properties points to the correct filter. graphedit builds the correct graph by default when I drop a sage file on it. But, when playing back in sage, the little nvidia icon in the system tray that lets me adjust it's properties is not coming up -- ffdshow's is.

I would uninstall FFDshow and try again (You can add sage to FFDshow's excluded program list also).
The FFDshow system icon will list all the filters in Sage's graph, which will provide clues on why a certain filter maybe used. (Different audio tracks etc...) I assume you are on XP? Why Nvidia?

I did that and Sage still isn't using Nvidia. I'm not sure what it's using, but neither ffdshow nor Nvidia. I believe that the problem's in Sage.

In sage.properties what exactly do you have on this line?
videoframe/additional_video_filters=NVIDIA Video Decoder

This was correct in sageclient.properties, but not in sage.properties (it had my original hauppauge video decoder from my winTV card that I just replaced with the hdpvr).
I corrected the line in sage.properties, but still no dice. videoframe/video_decoder_filter=NVIDIA Video Decoder

Does sage offer Nvidia as a video decoder option in setup?
Have you properly registered the filter? (Usable in graphedit?)

Yes. It is listed in sage's video decoder setup list and it is selected.
I've been using the nvidia decoder with sage for years - since it was recommended to get rid of a stutter problem that I was having (it did). It's not until recently that sage stopped using it.

I have NVIDIA Video Decoder installed on my Win 7 X64 system so I will be able to test later today and provide feedback on whether this problem is your system or a change in Sage.

IIRC, the tray icon won't show up when selected in Sage directly. Setting Sage to 'Default' and increasing the merit of NVIDIA should get the tray to show up (assuming you get ffdshow lower). Are you on XP? NVIDIA reverts to software mode on Win7.

If you select NVIDIA Video Decoder and FFDshow Audio Decoder.
Then even if the Nvidia icon is missing... The FFDshow audio icon will be in the system tray, and it will show what video decoder Sage is using.

I upped the merit for ffdshow's audio decoder and checked the video decoder shown using ffdshow's icon and low and behold, it's Nvidia's. I can even get to it's setup from the ffdshow's icon in the system tray. Does anyone know why the Nvidia configuration icon is suppressed in the system tray? And, now I know why the video seemed better when I switched away from ffdshow's -- I was back to nvidia's .

Stop with adjusting merit value. Just select FFDshow audio in sage. Merit values tweaks with create problems...

The tweak was the only way to get sage to use it - it wasn't a direct choice.
And, I've had so many programs "tweak" my merits, thereby breaking my playback (and really annoying me ), that I have them saved and it's easy for me to restore back to my baseline. But - that doesn't answer the question of why the Nvidia configuration icon's being suppressed?

I don't have a clue.
I use Microsoft DTV/DVD Video Decoder 99% of the time and then Intervideo Video Decoder the other 1%. I got tired of merits, graphedit, line 21, etc, etc...

Interesting. I've had it chosen directly for a while now, and I'm sure that I've seen the icon at times when I wasn't full screen with sage -- that's what reminded me that I was using it! I'll have to deselect it in sage (switch to default) and test (since it's also the top merit decoder).
