Can you speed up HD-PVR channel changes

Hi, I am running V7 with 1.5.7 drivers to a HD-PVR connected via S-VIDEO to a set-top box - Using USB-UIRT for IR channel changes - No HD or SP/DIF involved.

Its been running reliably for months now but the channel changes are painfully slow (4 or 5 secs) compared to my old 2250's (Running on VMware ESXI so cant use PCI boards).

Anyhow - Does anyone know how to speed up channel changes ?

Thanks

You'll find that setting in the sage.properties file.
Quote:
mmc/encoders/-431xxxxxx/delay_to_wait_after_tuning=4000
the -431xxxxxx number represents the number for your HD-PVR and yours will be different.

But there is a reason it is set like that and a longer delay than other tuners. It gives the HD-PVR time to lock in on the video resolution and audio it is trying to record. The quicker the channel changes the more chance the HD-PVR will have a system error and end up with a bad recording or no recording. Jst so you understand what might happen of you cahnge the timing.

5 seconds sounds reasonable. If your STB switches channels rather fast, then you may decrease this number. I would decrease it gradually for as long as the hd pvr does not switch on and off again during channel changes. Once it starts going on and off, it's better to go a bit higher to avoid lock-ups as Gerry mentioned.
Also, depending on whether you locked your STB to a certain input resolution you may go a bit lower, since channel changes of the same resolution are faster.

Also, check to see if your STB pauses when you enter the channels. If it does, check to see if you can remove the pause via a setting or by entering more digits. For example, some STBs may accept 4 digits for a channel. If you want channel 201 on such a system, it might pause, waiting for a possible 4th digit. But, if you enter 0201, it may remove that pause. I just made this change to SageTV (to 4 digits) since I found a slight pause with just 3 digits. I'll need to revisit the HD-PVR's tuning delay now and see if I can decrease it at all.

5 seconds is about right - the best way to deal with this is to not watch live TV.

I know I'm necro'ing an older thread, but I am in the same boat. Although if I could get 5-6 seconds from the time I hit the "Tune" button to when the video actually comes up, that would be great. Currently, it takes 11 seconds for this to happen!!

Running an HD-PVR with a USB-Uirt. It takes Sage approx 5 seconds just to tell the USB-UIRT to "fire" the numbers at the STB once I hit Tune. I tweaked the setting in the video source for the UIRT to have 1ms times between numbers so those go real fast. I just need to "tighten up" the time it takes for sage to actually tell the UIRT to change the channels. 5 seconds of lead time BEFORE anything else happens is unacceptable in my eyes.
