Channel Changing Speed

This is a problem that has existed since cable boxes first came on the scene and has persisted through satelite TV and now even exists with expensive TV tuners. Back in the old days (and even with cheap, older cable boxes) one could simply change the channel and the change would take affect immediately. That is not true today. I have a directivo (series 2) and now a fancy Sage computer (well... fancy for me anyways) with arguably the best TV tuner money can buy (Hauppauge 500). It does seem that changing decoders and some other settings help a little but not but nothing like the old days.

Does anyone know for sure what this is a function of? Is there any way at all to fix it so that channel changes take place instantly like they did in the old days?

Not really -- you are dealing with the lag introduced by first saving the recording to a file, waiting for a short amount to be recorded, then loading and playing from that file. The tuner in a TV simply tunes & displays the results.... but even one of my TVs is slow changing channels.

There are some videoframe/xxx properties listed on p. 184 of the v2.2 manual that you can change to minimize some of the delays. There may be other properties that people have discussed on the foum or are listed elsewhere. There are a couple that have to do with IR tuning, but I can't remember it at the moment... oh yeah -- (more page numbers. ) check out the tuning Remote Control Options on p. 123 if you are tuning an external converter box.
