That is very close to what I was thinking too in the beginning of the thread. Some of the other ones look very good too though. Hard to pick a favorite with so many cool ones

Ok,

My Dream - is a clone of Kaleidescape's movie wall

The start of this video gives a quick overview - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnsCF...next=1&index=1

I have seen that kaladscope wall many times but I like to think mine looks a bit better . I don't like the animation of them moving around seems distracting. Now the info popping out that is easy to do and actually did it before but it seemed distracting to me.

That being said that lead me to watch this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLLy2...eature=related

Skirge where you at?? I think that actually works pretty well using left and right to change filters/categories etc and up and down.

I also like the paused featured!! (already had that coded but paused is a good name for it)

cheers.

I love your wall view, I have it enabled on all the extenders as default, but would love to stop the options menus poping out until i actaully push the options button on the remote.

I actaully like the covers moving about, I think it adds really cool feel to the system.

I like the collections view, but with that filtering added to the wall would be sweet also

WALL WALL WALL - its awsome at 133"

Cheers m8

In the wall, if i scroll off the edge, instead of it doing nothing. it slides out the options panes. which i appear to end up doing pretty often !

Oh that is an easy one

Universal-Right Options-

turn it off and then it will just wrap instead of pulling up the options you can also turn of the left as back

and I agree 110" wall view is the only way to go.

You didn't like my ideas, so I took my ball and went home. j/k I still think that having just a wall of movies is somewhat pointless because you generally have some idea of what you feel like watching. Why would anyone want to constantly browse their entire collection? It seems like a waste of time. I think that people with smaller collections like this because they only have 20 or 30 things to browse. But, when you get into the hundreds, I think it's silly to even consider browsing them all, unless you're really bored.

I'm picturing filters which could go like this:

Action -> 007 -> Sean Connery

Then I browse those movies and decide which one to watch. Conversely, I may see Daniel Craig listed alongside Connery and decide that I'd rather see Craig as Bond. At that point, I might stop on 007 instead and browse them all, since I wasn't as set on Connery as I thought.

For parents with kids, I could see something like this:

Johnny -> Bedtime -> Short

When Johnny asks to watch some TV before bed, you put on something short and relaxing.

Well then code that already man That is kind of where I think it needs to go as well in a dynamic type view

I have to disagree on the wall statement though. Me and my wife have over about 1500 movies/videos now and she will use nothing but the wall. We have about 7 custom views set up each with different sorting and filters that allow us to select a wall that will limit our options automatically everytime. Some examples

1. New Movies - Wall view will watched movies filtered out sorted by date added movies shown first
2. Online Movies - Filtered to only show playon movies sorted by date added first
3. Unwatched movies -sorted by title filtered out all watched movies
4. Kids Movies- Adds in the adult restriction to only show rated G movies.

etc

My wife wants to see covers she doesn't want to read (here words not mine).

So anyways I guess my long winded point was I see both sides

cheers

So in other words, if you want to tell Plucky how it should look you'll have to marry him.

Oh man, that was good.

With this code, I thee wed...

@PluckyHD: It sounds as though she enjoys just browsing the wall. This isn't meant to be a sexist comment, but does she enjoy the shopping "experience" as well? I'm thinking of people who enjoy spending lots of time just going through the stores for an extended period of time and then picking out a single item. I know plenty of people like that and I could see how "the wall" would appeal to them.

Me, I want to go into the mall quickly, get to the store I want, and make my purchase. However, I'm going to go to a mall which is enjoyable to walk through, even if I don't spend much time there.

I stay out of the Mall But yes more dynamics and easier filtering are on the list. I will be making an announcement of some plans in the near future once i get them all ironed out so this thread while showing view ideas and discussion is very helpful in the design/layout process of things.

Doesn't Phoenix's ImageAPI have some perspective and reflection functions?

Yes but they don't perform the 3d renderings correctly they are all 2d based. Had a Discussion with stuckless a long time ago about it now there is no need since sagetv does native on the fly 3d renders they just don't work on extenders. they do render but in 2d and don't look right.

Alright been watching that kaleidoscope video. Anyone used one of these? I am not able to figure out why logic they are using on that wall. I have been able to recreate that wall (wasn't easy) to allow scrolling in every direction and keep the focus centered (actually doesn't work to bad). But I can't figure out there sort/ordering. IT doesn't appear to adjust the covers when going up or down as opposed to left or right. If I could figure the logic out behind it I could probably recreate it (I am liking the look of it btw).

Plucky -
I don't understand your question? What do you mean by "IT doesn't appear to adjust the covers when..."

What do you mean by adjusting the covers? It looks to me like the same actions occur for up/down vs. left/right - when I watch the youtube videos on Kaleidoscope?

I am talking about keeping a sorting order while allowing scrolling in every direction. I can't see their logic or how they are doing it (it doesn't appear to be any sorting order at all just random which i am sure isn't the case)

I understand when you click a movie the movies "like" it come in and around it. But is it just always sorted that way likest movies close and as it gets further they are just random movies until you click another title....Surely that isn't the case.

It is easy to keep a sort when going vertical or horizontal but when you are going both ways I just don't see this working like they have it.

Looking at it some more.. That column view they have where you can sort any column by pressing OK could be pretty useful as well.

Yeah I posted that above

I am just stumped on their sorting logic on the wall doesn't seem usable to me.
