HD300 turning off automatically?

Hey Guys,

I did a search and read the FAQ but saw no mention about this.

I just installed my first extender yesterday, an HD300, and it was pretty painless

I have been keeping the power to the HD300 on and just sitting there at the main menu in Sage. I noticed that twice since yesterday the blue light turns red and I have to turn it back on. Does the HD300 recognize that I'm not actually "using" it and shut itself off or do I have some issue with the HD300 that I need to troubleshoot further?

Thanks!

I was reading a bit more and noticed how you could load beta firmware so I did the 4 digit number trick and the menu option turned to Beta download and said there was a new version. I downloaded the new version, it restarted, and told me there was another new version. I downloaded that one, it restarted, then I went in and checked the version... oddly enough, it is the same version that I posted above??? Not sure how in the heck that happened but I'm definitely at the latest version now. LOL

I think the latest "beta" version is actually now older than the latest official one.

Your server isn't going to sleep is it? The Extenders will go to sleep (AFAIK) if they lose the connection to the server. And with the HD300 it's possible when you turn it back on it sends the WOL packet which wakes your server again?

Ahh... that might be it then. I was doing some hard drive upgrading on my server yesterday so started and stopped the server a couple times. Then, this morning when I noticed the HD300 off again, SageTV UI just randomly closed on me about midnight last night while watching TV but I may have done some troubleshooting which involved stopping/starting the service as well.

So, if the server going down causes the HD300 to go to sleep/shut off then that's the answer Thanks!

As for the beta vs normal... crap, are they different? I'm seeing the same firmware version number as I did yesterday so do you recommend me just leaving it as is or going back to the non beta version?

Thanks for the help!

Well they're dated, it looks like "official" is the newest version, I'd just use that.

Thanks, stanger. Looks like the HD300 is seeing the official and beta as the same thing so I'll just leave it as is. Thanks!

i've had a couple of (non-repeatable) issues where playing a file or a youtube video caused my hd300 to go to power down, and i had to pull the wall wart to get it going again..........this has happened 2 or 3 times now (not on current beta20) but was never completely repeatable (though it did happen twice in a row when watching/starting a youtube video, which now plays fine)..............with multiple upgrades to hd300 and v7beta, i am not sure exactly what loads i was on but i'd say v7betas between 17/19 (hasn't happened yet with 20) and hd300 loads over the past 7-10 days...........never wrote a ticket since i couldn't find a repeatable scenario.

this is worth looking out for, imho

Sounds to me like you installed the beta, then it recognozed there was a new release, which is the current release, and installed that. There you are back to the same version number.

This has happened to me twice on .20 with a HD300 on the latest offical prod firmware. Watching a recording, screen froze, then went black. Took a look and the HD300 had powered off. Sage server was stiull active because a HD200 was playing a different recording in the other room and never skipped a beat. Non-repeatable for me. Happened twice on 2 different TV recordings.

Opened one too. Problem with it not being repeatable it will be tough to diagnose or get a debug log. I've already set mine on so we'll see if it happens again.

Hmm... that sounds like you guys may have had a different issue than me because I have been stopping the service several times over the last day. Will keep an eye out though to see if it goes to sleep without me restarting the service
