DO NOT INSTALL MYMOVIES COLLECTION MANAGER VERSION 3.17 PR3
Do not install anything above version 1.16 on collection manager it appears they changed the database and I wasn't aware of it (how could I be when they don't communicate with me anymore). It will break SMM and the database cannot revert back to the hold version...
MyMovies has contacted a fix is in the works for version 3.17r3. Last edited by PLUCKYHD; 09-29-2010 at 07:11 AM. |

WOW! This is the 2nd rant I've seen regarding them not communicating back. Sucks.
<feeling your pain>

So have they given you any kind of indication of why the heck they are not responding? were they upset at all about you making this plugin for sagetv? I would think it is beneficial for them to have as many things as possible using their software.. I know I have purchased the full gambit from them.... I know the collection manager has made my life much easier and i've now got a VERY cleaned up collection.. I wish there were more options with syncing to multiple servers - instead of having to go through their upload process... but I'll post that in a different thread sometime..

No indication what so ever. They were full onboard during development, but as of last 2 months no response to several emails or chat invites. So I almost feel like they took the sage users money and ran which ticks me off more. I wouldn't have a plugin without their initial backing. They have a great program so it is a shame. But seeing how they never even mentioned this plugin on their site or newsletter I guess shows where I stand...

What happens if you already installed, can you roll back?

Yeah but you have to nuke the database to do it so without a db backup you have to reimport everything. I am trying to see what all has changed but can be a bit much without some pointers to why Or what they moved around.

I've been bitten by changes in the database before, it seems like a pretty regular occurance for MM, you may have to build something into the plugin to support multiple versions of MM.

My database always rebuilds on changes. The mymovies databse has always been constant. I don't mind changing my coding when they change but if I am not notified and ignored when I ask forget about it. Supporting multiple changes in their databse is not going to happen on my end what a support nightmare I would have supporting different databse revisions and keeping them all working no thanks.

Me too!! I hope to offer a better option soon with greater flexibility. It will lose some features but I prefer not to make mymovies any more money at this point. I see posters from here posting over there and getting no responses just irks me more. I am so torn by this as I have used mymovies for years and really like their feature set.
Very disappointed and just want to say SORRY to anyone that did give them money on my behalf...I will get Phoenix posters implemented like I did their backgrounds and then at least everyone can get everything for free until I am able to offer an alternative. |

Good thing you already made plans to provide an alternative to MyMovies for the future of SMM.
I like SMM but really dislike MyMovies from the start. For me personally, it is such a pain to use as it forces me to change to an organizing structure that I really don't want. And the MyMovies software is such a lagging software for what it does, which is really just scanning and monitoring folders, fetching internet data, and storing in their database. It is so slow for whatever reason. I'm glad I never gave them a cent of my money. In fact, I'm thinking of stopping using SMM just to get rid of MyMovies.

Would you be opposed to us starting a complaint thread on the mm site?

As for structure all I can say is it will be much the same as the current unless you use bmt which is still sways off. There are nice tools that put then in folders for you |

Hmm I guess this explains the issues I've been having with my PC clients. I installed 3.17 PR2 two weeks ago and started building my DB from scratch (old db wasn't correct after I lost my array and 900 dvd's).

You are the second person to tell me they are using 3.17. I don't know if pr2 was effected. I only tested pr3 yesterday. If you are not having issues and have added a new movie and it played fine then you are okay. I am going to try and see what all has changed in pr3 today by looking over the database manually I guess.

i have had some issues with movies added showing errors in sagetv path vs my movies path and they don't play. there is no consistency between which ones have these issues...could this be the issue you see with 3.17? how do i downgrade? i'm happy to reimport but do i need to clean the folders of metadata before i uninstall 3.17 ?
