Stuck on Folders

I think I'm following the wiki but I can't seem to get folders to work.

I'm running a WHS server with HD200 extenders. I've put the Folder.properties file in the SageTV/properties folder of the MyMovies share but every time I go to mymovies>folders on an extender, it's blank yet all the other MyMovies views work perfectly.

Do I have to do anything special to get mymovies to 'accept' the properties? I've tried restarting the Sage server...

My Folder.properties file looks something like this (where the first value is the name I want to appear in SMM and the second value is the actual folder name:

Kids=Kids
Comedy\ &\ Musicals=Comedy\ &\ Musicals
Horror=Horror!

Any thoughts appreciated! Thanks.

Yes the & is actually in my folder name. The folder name is Comedy & Musicals.

Do I need to remove that and rebuild the database?

I'm still stuck and can't get folders to work. I've renamed all my folders to take out any characters that might be causing a problem. Here is my properties file:

Action=Action
Comedy=ComedyMusicals
Documentary=DocumentaryConcerts
Dramas=Dramas
Foreign=Foreign
Horror=Horror
Kids=Kids
SciFi=SciFiFantasy
Thriller=ThrillerMystery

It is in a Folder.properties file located on my WHS at (which is where MyMovies put the properties folder):

D:\My Movies\FileStorage\SageTV\Properties

Any thoughts on why the folder view isn't showing up?

Thanks!

No if I could see a log and your folders.properties file

Are those actually folder names? You are pretty much just recreating genres for what it is worth.

Thanks Plucky. My issue with genres is that I don't want the same movie showing up in multiple genres. I've attached the log files for you.

Also, I just updated to the latest version of SMM and now the movies won't play. The snazzy new error dialog you added indicates that SMM seems to have reverted to an old version of my file paths. I tried rebuilding the database but no luck. Odd since movies were playing fine yesterday?

is bit weird although although I do nothing to the paths so don't see how I could have changed that...

As for you folders error I don't see you trying to go into that folders view in that log...

could you try adding

"\\"

after everyone of your =

so you would have

Action=\\Action

remember they are case sensitive

I also don't see the folders.properties in that zip did you send it?

No sorry. Here is the Folder.properties file.

I can assure you I did try to go into the folders view from the MyMovies menu. Odd that it didn't show up in the log?

I've double-checked my folder names and they all match (checked for case sensitivity too).

I also added the two \\ after every equals sign. Still no luck.

I can't find you trying to enter folders anywhere in that log do me a favor

stop the sagetv service

go to sagetv\sagetv\logs and delete all the mymovies logs

restart the service

start sagetv go into MM folders and wait for it to load (or not load). exit that view and go back in again.

Send me your mymovies logs at that point in time.

As per your instructions, here is the log file Plucky. I went in and out of the MMFolder view several times... just to be sure... :-)

Thanks!

errr it appears I don't log enough to see what is happening...I am not sure why this isn't working for you but in the next build I will add more logging to the folders section so I can see what is going on.

Syntax

I'm not sure if this is might be helpful or not, but I have folders working and had to play with the syntax before they showed up. For example, I have lots of "Action" movies stored in the following location:

D:\Movies\Genres\Action

Accordingly, the syntax in my properties.folders file (which I created and have stored in my "share" - in my case, a hidden directory at C:\ProgramData\My Movies\FileStorage\SageTV\Properties) is the line:

Action=D:\\Movies\\Genres\\Action

I would suggest trying to get the folders view going with only one line entry at first, and remember to close & then re-open SageTV each time you make changes to the folders.properties file (in service mode, stopping and restarting the service isn't required). Also make sure the movies in the folder you are trying to setup otherwise appear in other views (ie: Genres, List, etc).

Hopefully this helps. I really like the folders concept and hope to eventually go this route for my setup, however, I'm having trouble getting SMM to display the folders themselves (and not the movies within) into an alphabetical order. For example, if I have three folders defined in the .properties file, such as Action, Adventure, and Comedy - no matter what order I list these in the .properties file, Comedy always shows-up first. However, in contrast, when I select the Genres view, each Genre appears alphabetically sorted (Action, Adventure, then Comedy). It seems that the menu sort options appear to deal only with the movies themselves, as opposed to the display of the actual folders in this view.

Good luck to everyone and my biggest thanks again to Plucky for this truly awesome plugin!

Someone mentioned this before and I completely forgot to look into it if you don't mind logging it on the google site and I will look at getting them to show in order.

Consider it fixed and enhanced

It will now sort by name of the folder as well as you can edit the properties file live and exit and renter folders view and see changes immediately.

In the next build.

I am having a similar problem:

I have 2 shares that are being used by SageTV and SMM:

\\Tower1\Classics (which contains 140 movies)
\\Tower1\MOB (which contains 60 movies)

I have created a Folders.properties file (using Notepad) that looks like this:

Classics=\\Classics
MOB=\\MOB

When I go to SMM/MMFolders all I can see is the "Classics" folder, and it contains the correct 140 movies. There is no other folder present. All other views contain all 200 movies. I have tried many different forms of syntax and the "Classics" folder is always there (regardless of upper or lower case letters).

I don't think there is an answer as yet, but I just wanted to report having the same problem.

Thanks!
