DVD playback to MediaMVP
technical stuff...
Software: SageTV v6.6.2.218 Java Version: 1.6.0_17 STV Version: 2009120901 Operation System: Windows XP 5.1 DVD playback software: CyberLink PowerDVD v7.0 Detailed Setup info... ... Video/Audio ...... MPEG2 Video Decoder Filter: CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7) ... DVD ...... all relevant options: CyberLink decoders Problem: playback on MVP units does not show menus correctly (sometimes grey boxes or oval buttons, depending on the discs's menu layout), nor does it show video during playback. audio works fine. obviously this is a rendering problem but for the life of me I've searched on this board and haven't found a single solution. NOTE: I cannot playback *any* video on the actual PVR system as it's a virtual machine under Hyper-V and there's no audio "hardware" installed. NOTE#2: PowerDVD application can play back video fine so I'm pretty sure it's working correctly. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm almost 100% positive someone has had this same problem and solved it but after 3 days of trying to find an answer I'm apparently too short-bus to figure it out so feel free to insult me, after you direct me to a fix.

So were these ripped DVD's or are you trying to play them directly form a disc?
I don't do menu's with my DVD's when I rip them so I can't comment on that part, but I have had no problems playing movie only ripped DVD's on my MediaMVP's (I only have one anymore, and not even sure when that was last used to be completely honest, but it has been since 6.6.2).

they are full unadulterated ISO copies of the DVDs in question. it almost makes me think it's a DRM kind of issue but then why would PowerDVD itself have no issues playing them back?
really don't want to have to go back and rip them in some other fashion.

PowerDVD has a licensed decoder-that's why it can play store bought DVDs. If these discs weren't ripped you have answered your own question as to why they won't play on your MVPs. PowerDVD being installed does nothing for your MVPs.

even if the original disks are marked as "not ecrypted" inside the image? mind you I made no changes to that status when I ISO'ed them so...

You are also trying to play ISO's, is that even supported on anything but V7 in Sage? I am surprised you are even getting the menus....
