MediaMVP .vob playback is blocky..

I am running SageTV 6.0 beta and just received the MVP. The tv streams just fine over my network but my .vob DVD backup files look like they have occasional decoding problems. They video flickers a little and the MPEG compression is quite obvious. Does anybody else have this problem and how can I fix this?

i had the same problem watching fast and the furious tokyo drift on friday night but watching poseidon on saturday night was no problem except for right at the very end where voices got out a sync for a little bit.

that said watching dvd's through the mvp isn't nearly as flawless as watching recorded and live tv since it seems to bring response to a snails pace or in the case of poseidon required me to restart the server.

I use my MVP on a 21inch SDTV and the artifacts are not so obvious.

With V6 however, there is a setting in the Detailed Setup to use High Quality transcoding which on my 21inch TV looks much better.

Have any of you tried this to see if it improves things?

the mvp only transcodes non native video and vob is native mpeg2 so other than the audio it shouldn't have to transcode video?

the possibility exists i suppose that the bit rate fpr certain movies might be beyond the capability of the mvp?

Video flicker..

Right now I am watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy on a standard 4:3 tube TV and the picture actually looks pretty good. The DVD was backed up to my network in the original format (ie..without additional compression) and takes up very little CPU or network usage when streaming. It also seems to be happening only after about 10 minutes of actual viewing. The video will just start flickering every few seconds. It is REALLY annoying! If I can't fix it, I will probably return the MVP.

I will check my settings as Lucas recommended as see if that is the problem when I get home today.

I also noticed that Sage moved this thread to a Beta Topic. I am unsure if this is related to 6.0beta or not, I upgraded before I got the MVP.

that's why i think it might have something to do with bit rate or possibly even the software used to rip it?

tokyo drift i ripped with nero recode but i ripped poseidon with shrink and that played fine. i guess i need to test a little bit bt either way the mvp was sluggish to non responsive at the end of watching a dvd movie with either ripping method.

So I checked the settings in SageTV and it is already set to high quality. I have been looking at some other posts and might this have something to do with the 'Flicker' setting in the MVP. If so, how do I adjust this?

There is a flicker setting in the original Hauppauge software. You would need to install that and have the MVP load that software rather than SageTV.

I installed the Hauppauge software and changed the flicker setting in the MVP. This did not work either. Anybody have any other ideas?
