n00b question
been using sage for a while now, but about to start a new project.
I currently have 1PC dedicated to SageTV (about to be two) and a file server where my media is stored. In effort to save on electricity, I want to put my tuner cards in my file server and run the clients only when needed (hibernate at other times). That way I have only 1 machine running 24/7, while my clients are off when not in use. My question is, has anyone used SageTV with windows server 2003 with a Hauppauge pvr-150 and/or a Hauppauge 2550? I currently have the 150, but will be ordering the 2250 within the next week or so. Just would like to know if anyone has a setup like this or know that it will work? Thanks! |

The server in question is also running with several other purposes. Its main function is a file server, however it is also a virtual host running most of my network applications and services. Server is pretty beefy, and no where close to running out of resources. I wanna consolidate how many physical machine that I am running so save some $$ on the electric bill.
If its completely impossible or too many issues with running 03 server, i could try and run it as a virtual machine with XP or win 7, but could see issues when trying to load the PCI(e) tuner cards in a VM. Last edited by uber; 08-09-2010 at 04:18 AM. |

Server 2003 is working fine for me with 1 HVR1600 and 1 HVR2250. Had it running for a couple years (Sage 6.x and 7.x) You will need to install the XP drivers for both. I can record 3 HD OTA and 1 SD SVideo at the same time. Also ShowAnalyser works fine.
2003 is not good for playing back media so I use 2 HD200s to play back. The only problem I have had is when trying to install PlayOn, which requires windows media player, but there is a work around on the PlayOn forums. Hope all goes well in your consolidation. -David |
