HD-PVR and USB-UIRT setup returns from MIA

My WAF dropped dramatically a couple weeks ago when the HD-PVR and & USB-UIRT setup connected to my Comcast Cisco STB "disappeared". I think I updated WHS about the time it disappeared, don't think I updated Sage. I am running the last Sage version 6 from 12/2009.

This weekend I wanted to dedicate some time to either get it working again, or try something else (Uverse?). It was very strange, as if the hardware was no longer detected by the OS. I installed a newer HD-PVR driver, but still didn't see any of the Comcast related hardware in Sage. I downloaded a WinXP driver for the USB-UIRT and tried to install it but WHS said "your current driver is newer than this one, are you sure you want to install it", which I declined. Without doing anything else, I opened Sage on the server, entered setup again, and in the video sources it had all reappeared, including channel lineups, as if it had been there the whole time, very strange.

Has anyone else ever experienced this? Cause?

Your not alone brother

I too am using WHS. This occured a couple of times but both times I believe it was the HDPVR that was at fault. Everything else I have used on WHS have worked perfectly except that one piece of hardware.

Both times it happened I had to reboot the server to get it to recognize the HDPVR again.

Thanks for the reply, my sanity is somewhat restored if this has happened to someone else too.

Hmmm...now that you mention it, I did reboot the server too about when the HDPVR magically reappeared. I also unplugged the USB cable and tried another port and WHS recognized a "new device". I also shut off and restarted the HDPVR. I can't remember the exact sequence I used and exactly when it reappeared.

Since I got it running again last weekend, I ask the wife every day if it is working OK. No problems yet, fingers/toes crossed for luck.

Yup, my HDHomerun part of the setup has run 100% stable the entire time, never updated, never touched, never had a single issue with any recordings. I'd really like to have the Silicon Dust cable card tuner device to replace the HDPVR if it works as well as their HDHomerun.
