External firewire drive disappears/stops unexpectedly
I just bought an Acomdata external firewire 800 enclosure to turn my Mac Mini (running Windows 7) into my Sage server. I can access the drive fine in Windows Explorer but as soon as I try to record to it the drive "disappears" and Device Manager says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (Code 43)". I have made sure that the Power settings don't spin down the drive and there is nothing wrong with the hard drive because I put it back in my "old" server and it still records with no problems. I am not sure if the enclosure, Windows, or Apple is to blame. Does anyone have any ideas or is my plan foiled?

1- Click the Start Button, type devmgmt.msc in the “Start Search” box and press Enter. 2- Expand the "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers" node in the device tree on the right hand pane 3- Right click the host controller node select "Update driver software ..." 4- Select "Browse my computer for driver software" 5- Select "let me pick from a list of device driver on my computer ..." and Check the box before “Show compatible hardware”. 6. Choose the second option---1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy), and click next to update the driver. Let me know if that helps. Gerry

Thanks, Gerry. Unfortunately that didn't make a difference. I have also tried the Unibrain firewire drivers which made no difference and to enable "Write caching" for the drive which helped a little (allowed the recording to go longer until the hang/stopping of the drive). I guess I will give up unless there is a setting in Sage that will fix this and make it reliable.
